aga khan qualifies I Runs Mile and a Quarter in 2:01 to Win Pierrepont Handicap. .Superlette Accounts for Hiawatha Handicap After Game and Thrilling Finish. NEW YORK, N. T., Oct 11. William Woodwards sterling three-year-old Aga fKhan qualified handsomely this afternoon for the Latonia Championship Stakes, to be run at Latonia next Saturday, when he ran the mile and a quarter of the Pierrepont Handicap in 2:01. This time equals the marks of Man o War and Sir Barton, each -of which ran the distance at Saratoga, four years ago and is only surpassed by the American record of 2:00, made by Whisk Broom II. and the 2:00 hung up-by Sarazen in defeating Epinard in the Third International L Special at Latonia today. Aga Khan was paced by his stablemate, Priscilla Ruley, the first mile, when Eddie Barnes sent him into a long lead and at the "end ho was well under restraint, several lengths in front of Priscilla Ruley. Just be- yond the finish line Barnes started to ease the colt up, seeming to have forgotten his instructions to work Aga Khan out another quarter of a mile. Then he let him down and completed the mile and a half under mild restraint in 2 :29. Priscilla Ruley also was sent along the extra quarter and was -separately timed in 2 :30. The first mile of the race was run in 1:36, nearly two seconds .faster than the Jamaica track record: PRISCILLA RULEY PACEMAKER. Priscilla Ruley was sent into a good lead at the beginning of the race and led by a wide margin for nearly a mile. Aga Khan was always second and led Rialto by open daylight The latter made a bid at the eighth post and then quit to nothing at the end, was beaten for show honors by Horologe, which had no speed at any stage. Aga Khans victory brought the Belair Stud ,250 as first money. The Hiawatha Handicap, for two-year-olds, at five and a half furlongs, with an added value of ,500, fell to the Rancocas Stables Superlette, ridden by Mark Fator and saddled, now that Sam Hildreth is .in Kentucky, by the latters brother-in-law, Frank M. Taylor. Mrs. Victor Vivadous. Pleasant Memories was quickest to get into full stride and her , speed for the first three-eighths was sparkling. At one period she had a lead of three open lengths, with Beatrice next and Superlette an even greater distance back. Sweet Ann was being badly outrun at this stage. Beatrice kept determinedly after the flying leader and when straightened away began to wear her down rapidly. Meantime, Superlette was closing fast and a hundred yards out got to the leaders, but Fator had to ride her out to the last ounce to be first, a neck in advance of Beatrice. Pleasant Memories -tired badly in the closing strides and was three lengths back at the finishing post Sweet Ann made up little ground, and it distinctly was not her race. Callahans ride was very listless in the early stages and he went from a snug hold to a drive at the last quar- , ter pole. Florence Nightingale dwelt at the break and was not perservered with. The .time, 1:05, established a new record for the stake, reducing it four fifths of a second from the mark established jointly by Miss Star and Anna Marrone II., in its last two runnings. P. S. P. KA-NDOLPH VICTORY. P. S. P. Randolphs blue and pink silks were in front in the opening dash, a claiming race bringing together a band of medi-. ocro maidens at three-quarters. Little OHara had -Mr. Randolphs Royal Airman away first and, after showing the way for " an eighth, let him drop in behind the fast but faint hearted Kia for the run around the turn. Once straightened away Royal Airman went to the front and won ridden out from the fast-finishing Reliable, which had started in the rear and then had to work his way up on the outside. Jeroboam, which Pony McAtee had away with the leaders, could not keep up in the early stages, but closed ground t enough at the end to beat out the tiring Kia. Skirmish, Thomas Calcinas four-year-old daughter of Celt and Battle, just earned the decision in the second, a moderate-priced- claiming race, at a mile and seventy yards. To a poor start little Hunt hustled Honfleur clear of his competitors In the run to the turn and for a brief period had a daylight lead. But nearing the half Skirmish went ; up to the leader and raced with him to the turn Into the .stretch, where she drew away .. Honfleur was beaten less than a length. Ira Pennocks Pathan, showing decided improvement over recent starts, followed Sword closely for the first mile of the fifth race and then in the final quarter wore him down to win by a head. The race was under claiming conditions at a mile and a quarter and brought out five of the original nine entries. Sword at once went into the lead, followed by Pathan and there was little change in the order of running of the othors throughout the race. Bar Gold was far out of it to the three-eighth post where he began to close ground, but could get no nearer to the leaders than three lengths at the end.
