JOHN HAGER, close up from the start, gained steadily through the stretch into the lead and, finishing gamely, outstayed COLONEL WAGNER. The latter was outrun to the stretch turn from where he came rapidly and finished fastest of all. HATS UP showed much speed for a half mile, but tired badly in the stretch. FLORENCE W. closed a gap. CARDIFF began slowly but, under hard riding, finished fast and outstayed the others for second place. DROWSY WATERS, hard ridden, also finished fast and gamely. SIR PETER set a fast early pace and tired after reaching the stretch. PLANTER and SPANDOR were always outrun.
