NEW HAMPSHIRE BY IEKGTH Wins Calvert Handicap at Laurel For J. K. L. Ross. Old Normal, Aided by Malbcng Good Ride, Scores Again Hnlterman Arc Also Actirc. 4 LAUREL., Md., Oct 14 Six fast sprinters performed in the main attraction, the Calvert Handicap at Laurel upon the seventh day of the meeting, and at the end New Hampshire, the high weight, won by a length from Comixa. while a length and a quarter back of them finished Broomster. Walls, in the silks of the J. K. L. Ross establishment, piloted the winner and performed the task with facility born of long association. Broomster took the lead next to the rail from an inside position and showed the way from the barrier. Comixa was rushed along side the Greentree stable gelding and passed him during the first quarter. Rounding the turn, Comixa drew clear as Broomster fell back. Meanwhile, Walls was rating New Hampshire along. Ncaring the stretch New Hampshire had reached within a neck of the leader and after straightening out he came around her and drew into a safe lead. Comixa held on gamely but could not get to the winner. Broomster came again and held the others safe for the small end of the purse. The attendance and weather continued good today. Stevens got up at the end of the mile to win the first race. E. Renzetti, in the silks of F. J. Boyle, rode him. Tjandi finished second. Seths Flower beat the others m a field of fourteen. The winner was outrun to the last quarter, where he closed an immense gap to overhaul the leaders and get up in a sensational finish to earn the verdict by a nose. Courageous, from the H. P. Whitney stable and with Ivan Parke in the saddle, was a red hot favorite in the second race anu maue gxjod after a long and hard drive to outlast Gun Boat, while Prince of Power finished third. Rock Pocket got up on the inside in the closing strides to win the sixth. It was at a mile and a half. Yankee Princess and Fancy Free divided the remainder of the purse. Yankee Princess made the pace under good rating, but tired slightly right at the end and Barnes, after saving ground all the way with Rock Pocket, got through on the final sixteenth to win going away. One of Johnny Maibens waiting rides on the bad-legged old Normal won the final for W. Durnan. It was at a mile and a sixteenth. Suppliant finished a fast-going second. Humboldt was third after following the pace of Triumph closely all the way. Haltermen were active today. G. W. Campbell took Tjandi from J. K. L. Ross for 51,800; P. F. Robie claimed L. A. Seregnis Sligo for the same price; A. Seguin dropped ,500 into the box to obtain Betty Maloney from the Nevada Stock Farm. Starter Milton set down E. Taullele and H. Holmes for three days each.
