RACING AT SAVANNAH SAVANNAH, Ga.. Oct 17 By featuring running races at the Georgic State Fair, to be held October 27 to November 1, Savannah hopes to create such a demand for this sport that it will be enabled to have regular late fall and early spring race meetings. This will provide a convenient and logical stopover for horsemen on their long jumps to and from Florida. Libaral purses and favorable conditions are attracting horsemen to Savannah. So many entries have already been received that work on new stables was started last week to accommodate 100 additional horses. These stables will be rushed to completion in time for the opening, October 27, and when finished the local plant will have room for about 200 horses. Delightful weather conditions prevail here in the early spring and late fall. At these times of the year the majority of the big tracks are closed in the north and south, and this will be an ideal spot for horsemen to stop over. The track is being thoroughly overhauled and will be in first class condition. Well known judges and starters will handle the races. There will be no harness races. The mutuel system will prevail.
