JAMES S. METCALFE CHOSEN To Fulfill Unexpired Term of President of Westchester Racing Association. NEW YORK, N. Y., Dec. 18. James S. Metcalfe has been selected to fill the unexpired term of president of the Westchester Racing Association, the office being made vacant by the death of August Bel-j mont. Ihis was a natural succession, for Mr. Metcalfe was vice-president of the association. The annual meeting of this old racing organization will be held early next month, when the election will be held. Mr. Metcalfe is not as well known to racing as many of the other members of th? Westchester Racing Association, but he has been, active in his office in the association. and a particularly energetic officer. It is not expected that he will be the choice atj the annual election, and it is not thought j that he would even bo a candidate for the office of president. Joseph E. Widener is looked upon as the logical successor to Major Belmont and the lively interest he has taken in the affairs of the Westchester Racing Association,, and in beautiful Belmont Park, make him the outstanding figure for the office. This meeting of the Westchester Racing Association is held about the same time as the annual meeting of the J.ockey Club, land it is probable that no new chairman of. ! the governing body will be chosen until that j date. The annual meeting of the Jockey Club is to be held January S, but a special ! meeting has been called for December 0.
