GRASS MAID VICTORIOUS Scores Over Pirate Gold and My Valet in Feature Race at Maple Heights. CLEVELAND. Ohio, May 13.— The Missouri Stable registered its first success of the meeting here this afternoon when Grass Maid scored a handy victory in the Cuyahoga Handicap, the main attraction of the program. Pirate Gold was second, while My Valet was up in time to be a distant but easy third. Dorothy Buckner cut out the early running, but was displaced from the leadership rounding the stretch turn by Pirate Gold. At this point Grass Maid came again and. closing with good courage, disposed of Pirate Gold in the last sixteenth. Dorothy Buckner tired badly during the run home, which enabled My Valet to be third. Favorable conditions again prevailed and an excellent midweek day crowd witnessed the sport. Large fields were the order and the majority of the events were productive of keen stretch struggles. Dextrose had the speed of the contestants at all stages of the initial race, but Eddie Jr. was crowding Johnnie McCaffertys color bearer all the last half and had her doing her best at the end. Esther Grindell moved up into third position approaching the stretch turn and easily disposed of the remainder. Bill McCloy showed the way until midway of the stretch in the second event, with Boots and Shoes in closest pursuit. In the final eighth Boots and Shoes proved the gamer and won going away from the pacemaker. Mes-sines. from a slow beginning, bested the cttiers in the last quarter. Winnipeg and Chief Sponsor cut out the early running in the third race, with Gold Mount in close attendance. When straightened out for the run home Gold Mount gained steadily and nailed Winnipeg in the final stride. Sweepstakes came from the rear and dropped into third place in the last sixteenth. Showing keen speed from the start. Top Lady proved to be best of the two-year-olds in the fourth number and won handily. Golden Sweep was hard pressed near tie-end to save second place from the fast-closing Kitty B.
