CRUSADER began very slowly and was outpaced in the early running, but moved up on the outside after rounding the far turn and. finishing with a great burst of speed through the last eighth, won in the last stride. GAFFSMAN showed the most speed in the early running, but tired in the last eighth. ZEPPELIN was hard lidden all the way. CHOCOLATE SOLDIER began fast and set a rapid pace, but quit in the stretch. ROCK BASS tired after making a challenge when going to the twelfth jump. GUINGAMP raced under restraint most of the way, but finished well. SCORCHER becan slowly, but closed a big gap into a fast going second. ROI.AND raced well and had no mishaps. HEELTAPS was off slowly and waa not persevered with. AK.NO quit. SCOTCH UltooM ran well. APPELLATE began quickly, set a fast pace and drew away from CARLTON after passinc the half mile post, but was tiring at the end and won because tK-st ridden at the finish. CAItLTON was eased back at the half mile post and was bronpht on the outside when entering the home stretch and, finishing gamely, could not have lost with a stronger rider up. WARNING finished on the outside and was going fastest of the first three at the end. DR. CHARLES WELLS closed a big gap. The latter was badly outrun to the last, but came fast through the stretch and catching the leader at the end. VAN PATRICK ran well and outgamed DERONDA at the end. The latter was made entirely too much use of in pacemaking and tired.
