MACOMBER COLORS TO FORE French-Bred Morning Cloud Successful Standard Bearer in Exciting Contest at Omaha. OMAHA. Neb., June 9. — The famed colors of A. K. Macomber. which are also sported by his brother. Dr. H. J. Macomber, mr.ster of the Mira Monte Stock Farm at San Jose, Calif., were carried to victory here today when the French-bred Morning Cloud, after a thrilling turf battle with Lizette, another product of the San Jose haras, annexed the long end of the purse in the fifth race, a dash of three-quarters, which was carded as the feature race of the day. It was Lorena Marcellia that ruled the favorite but the mare was never a factor in the decision of the contest. When the start came Morning Cloud was caught in a jam and her jockey. J. Smith, was forced to pull his mount up sharply. While Morning Cloud was in difficulty. Lizette. Belle of Elizabeth-town and Hoy O Boy were racing in front. Hopeless indeed appeared the task of Morning Cloud and not until the field had left the back stretch did the filly look to have a chance. Rounding the far turn she moved up with a powerful rush and, coming around the leaders turning for home, the red and white stripes loomed up the possible winner. Then came the great struggle in which Morning Cloud emerged victorious, after a dng-dong finish to the last stride. Belle of Eliza-j bethtown took the small end of the purse, with Lorena Marcellia and Boy O Boy next in order. Jockey V. Wallis who sprang into prom-inenc i on Monday when he rode five winners and a second out of six essays, is indeed a midget in every sense of the word. The lad, who can do 85 pounds, wears a number two and a half shoe and a size 12 shirt is big enough to encase his frame. Wallis rode his first winner at Tijuana last winter and like G. Johnson and A. Mortensen is a product of the Mexican course. A
