CONNAUGHTS CLOSING CARD e Cooler Weather Brings Out Big Crowd for Final Day. » E. E. Major Accounts for Doable With Miss Maggie and Lesli« — R. T. Wilsons Faddist in Triumph. I OTTAWA, Ont.. June 9.— The early summer meeting of the Connaught Park Jockey Club closed with the running of todays program. Cooler weather brought out a large crowd to bid the thoroughbreds adieu until they return In August for the midsummer period of racing here. This meeting has been one of the most successful in the history of the Connaught Park Jockey Club. Alice Lang beat eleven cheap platers In the opening race at three-quarters. Ridden by Jones, she was away quickly and dominated the running throughout. Rhinestone forced the pace all the way and beat Blue Brush for second place. The latter closed a big gap in the final stages of the race. Miss Maggie toyed with a field of seven two-year-olds in the second, which was at five-eighths. Kennedy sent her right to the front and she stayed there to beat Pheasant by two lengths. The latter was a neck | in front of Earl Coombs. Both were sharp j factors at all stages, but Pheasant proved the best stayer. Herbert forced the pace to the head of the stretch .where he began to tire. E. E. Major duplicated his success with Miss Maggie in the third race when Ivoslie showed the way to a band of eleven. The winner was ridden by Kennedy and it also marked his second success of the afternoon. I Roi Confidence forced the pace for practically the entire trip and held on well to beat Black Friday for second place. Black Friday closed stoutly through the stretch. R. T. Wilsons Faddist won the fourth, ! in which he beat live opponents easily in a I five and a half furlong dash. He was outrun early, but came fast coming into the stretch and once straightened out simply ran over his company. Ten Sixty was second, a length in front of Director. The latter bore out badly on the stretch turn after setting the pace and was unable to recover the lost ground in the run to the wire. Lady Boss went with the leaders for a half mile; and then was eased off as she began to stop. Jockey M. OConnor was listed to ride Good Kail in the first race, but he was ordered taken down because lie had not filed an application with the C. R. A.
