Iirodlej. * LATONIA, Ky„ June 9 —The E. R. Bradley skull cap will be used hereafter by jockeys riding on Kentucky tracks under supervision of the Kentucky State Racing Commission. Jockeys have been requested to make this a part of their riding equipment in all races. So far it has been made a request by the commission, but if not observed it will be made a rule of the commission. The notice requesting the universal use of the skull cap was made to jockeys and apprentices riding on the race tracks under the jurisdiction of the Kentucky State Racing Commission. "The Racing Commission has had under consideration for some time past the adoption of a rule making the helmet or fibrtid skull cap. such as furnished by Colonel E. R. Bradley, a part of the regular riding equipment for each jockey or apprentice riding in any race on tracks under its jurisdiction. "The Commission has refrained from taking this drastic step with the hope that the jockeys and apprentices would avail themselves of this valuable means of protection. It appears, however, that only a limited few use the hlmts whn all. In ourtaoinshrdlu use the helmets when all. In our opinion, should avail themselves of them at all times j as a means of self-protection. "At the present writing we have eight jockeys confined in hospitals or incapacl-i tated as a result of accidents. It Is meat fortunate that none of the cases are serious and that no fractured skulls are numbered In the list. However, we cannot divine Just the nature of the next accident to happen and as a safeguard we sincerely urge upon every jockey and apprentice constant use of the caps, as we deem it essential to the welfare of all concerned. Signed POLK LAFOON. Vice-Chairman.1 Supplementing the notice to the jockeys the following communication was sent by Secretary Sherwood of the commission to N. H. McClelland, clerk of the scales of the Kentucky Jockey Club. "We beg to hand you herewith notices to be posted in the jockeys room at Latonia.
