BAD FALL AT LATONIA Accident in Second Race Results Fatally for Takaweesa Three Jockeys Injured W Fronk Fronkand and W Pool Quite Seriously Program Below Standard LATONIA Ky June 19 The second race at Latonia in which a dozen maiden fillies took part at five and a half furlongs fur ¬ nished the outstanding incident of the day in a bad fall that for a time threatened grave consequences to jockeys F Maguire W Fronk and W Pool respectively riding Betty C Takaweesa and Mona The acci ¬ dent occurred just about the last eighth post in the stretch almost in full view of the big crowd that was on hand at Latonia this afternoon afternoonThe The field at that stage was racing closely grouped when suddenly there came a jam and Mona was seen to falter momentarily and go down like a shot She was followed by Betty C and later came Takaweesa to pile on the prostrate pair Takaweesa som ¬ ersaulted over Monay Fronk being thrown high in the air When the wreckage was untangled Takaweesa was unable to rise She had sustained a broken back Later she was destroyed Fronk and Pool appeared seriously hurt They were carried to the jockeys room where medical attention was at hand Detailed examination of the pair disclosed that Fronk had suffered a broken wrist and had numerous contusions and bruises about the body and chest Pool in addition to his left collar bone being broken suffered from a severe shake up and bruises Jockey Maguire luckily got off with a severe shaking up It was his first mount in a long time having just recovered from a fall in which he sustained a broken leg Mona and Betty C were badly bruised by their tumble tumbleThe The race was won by E Cebrians Lakme which luckily escaped and managed to draw out in the last sixteenth to win over Lady Carolyn with Percussion following closely closelySUBSTITUTE SUBSTITUTE FOR FEATURE FEATURETodays Todays offering was below standard and typical of the off day variety The intended feature race a handicap for a purse of 1800 was displaced by a 500 claiming race at six furlongs carrying a purse of 1500 The substitution was due to Stanwixs withdrawal leaving only three remaining ones in the race raceThe The lack of feature did not have much effect to reduce the attendance and a goodly crowd was on hand to witness the sport under ideal conditions conditionsColonel Colonel Gilmore an outstanding favorite was victor in the third race He led for the entire way and was well under restraint at the end to score over Cloister The latter was ridden by H Stutts who returned to the saddle today after a long absence due to an injury the opening day at Lexington Clois ¬ ter had to be hard ridden to outstay Captain Haney for second place placeThe The fourth race took the place of the fea ¬ ture It was a threequarters dash with Little Visitor a pronounced choice She won after leading all the way with Fire On in second place and Better Luck heading the others in third place Little Visitor with no one to force her to extend herself raced fast and she ran the threequarters in 111 She could have gone faster if allowed to but she was well in hand during the stretch stretchCHESTERBROOK CHESTERBROOK IN LAST STRIDE STRIDEThe The substitute race produced a splendid finish with Chesterbrook up in the last stride to beat Miss Rosedaie The latter displayed good speed and had the others seemingly beaten when the last eighth was reached but she began to tire steadily and Chesterbrook succeeded in getting up in the last stride to down hen ager raced well and finished in third place placeKyrock Kyrock racing in C H Knebelkamps colors scored a sensational victory in the sixth that brought to the post some good youngsters He was distantly out of it for the first three eighths and forced to race wide in the stretch but he came fast when urged hard in the last eighth and was up in the last twenty yards to down Harry Wills The latter had shown speed and disposed of Dolly Bay but was no match for the winner today Estin after a hard effort managed to land in third place placeEight Eight Sixty was victress of the closing race She won by a nose from Pillager in the last stride A combination of bad judgment on the part of McCoy who rode her and inter ¬ ference she was forced to suffer by the in ¬ competence of Cheatham on Air Castle came near causing her undoing She was forced back sharply at the first turn when Cheat ham rode blindly and he retarded her again when straightened going down the back stretch She raced wide thereafter and grad ¬ ually wore down Pillager which had a big lead and ultimately got up in the last stride Pillager had to ba ridden out to outstay Spanish Name Sincere closed a big gap but was not good enough here She was claimed for 2500 by G F Croissant
