GREAT RIDING DUEL Long Outfinishes Boganowski in Feat of Superb Horsemanship Brings Banter Home Ahead of ofPublisher Publisher in Principal Race Raceat at Aurora AURORA 111 June 19 W S Heatons Banter running in his best form and carry ¬ ing his weight well was returned winner of the five and a half furlongs dash that fea ¬ tured todays program at Aurora Close be ¬ hind him and pushing him to the limit was J Coughs Publisher with F Farrars Sun Lady a fast going third thirdThe The field was reduced to five due to the scratching of Missionary and Dustabout but a fine contest resulted They were off im ¬ mediately and Banter Publisher and Sun Lady raced close together to the first turn Sun Lady dropped back slightly approaching the stretch turn but Publisher was at Ban ¬ ters flank and it looked at this stage as if the Gough colt would be the winner But Banter had something in reserve and hard as Publisher tried fie could not head him They came down to the finishing line with both Long and Boganowski riding as if their lives depended on the verdict and the former by superb horsemanship coupled with the sameness of the colt under him was winner by half a length with Publisher threequar ¬ ters of a length in front of Sun Lady The latter raced through the stretch in fine fettle and was going gamely at the finish Cherry cote and Slice finished fourth and fifth respectively but never figured seriously in the battle for premier honors honorsLARGEST LARGEST CROWD OF WEEK WEEKLadies Ladies day was instrumental in bringing out the largest crowd of the week and the track was again in tiptop condition the twoyearolds in the third race running four and a half furlongs in 54 and breaking the track record recordCloughjordan Cloughjordan easily took the opening race from a poor band He raced with Royal George and Expressive for a quarter then took command and was never in trouble for the remainder of the trip Archie Alexander was easily best of the others and finished second while Erskine Dale got up in the last stride to nose out Expressive for third money The winner was an oddson choice Double T beat the band that went to the 1 post in the second race easily The winner was away well but relinquished the lead to False Alarm after going a quarter When False Alarm faltered in the stretch Tulsa which was kept close to the rail at the turn took command but could not hold his ad vantage as Double T came again and going to the front held Betsy safe at the end Betsy finished fast to take second place while Tulsa was easily best of the others After False Alarm finished it was noticed that his saddle had slipped and this ac ¬ counted for his failure to finish in a more prominent position positionSeven Seven twoyearolds contested in the third race and the Leslie Stables Sannatuga was j winner by a small margin from Black Angel After the horses had gone a quarter it de ¬ veloped into a twohorse affair Black Angel in front and Sannatuga in second position and wearing him down The latter caught the leader a sixteenth out and it was a battle from there to the wire with the Leslie Stable filly the winner Peter Brush just outstayed Viking for third place The win ¬ ner set a new track record for the distance distanceROYAL ROYAL PRINCESS EASILY EASILYClosing Closing fast on the inside through the stretch Royal Princess racing for W H Blanton and ridden by Noe won the fourth race going away The race was for three j yearolds and attracted a field of eight Geo Groom raced to the front after they had gone a short distance and set a good pace to mid ¬ way of the stretch where he was forced to give way to the challenge of the ultimate winner which had been outrun in the early stages but saving ground moved up with a rush when the stretch was reached Geo Groom was a handy second however a length in front of Old Broadway which beat the others by a good distance Blennerhas sett was prominent to the stretch but quit badly badlySeven Seven sprinters were attracted by the con ¬ ditions for the sixth race and in the running Mulciber was winner by a safe margin from Kosman with Finday finishing close up to take third The winner raced in the center of the track through the stretch and over coming the leaders advantage was drawing away at the finish Kosman was a forward factor throughout and finished with good courage while Finday raced evenly all the way The fainthearted Little Alfred again showed the way well into the stretch but quit badly and Candy Stick beat him for fourth place placeJockey Jockey 1C Noe scored his second success of the day when he rode War Winner to vic ¬ tory in the concluding race of the day The winner raced in front throughout Ticker Continued on sixteenth page
