THRILLING DAY OF SPORT Danby Beats Florence Nightingale in Hanover Handicap Scores in Housing Finish Under Sandes Masterly Jlldo Cartoonist by Narrow Margin NEW YORK N T June 19 Thrilling finishes were the order at Aqueduct today tuough it was a program that carried no stake feature The best race of the day was the Hanover Handicap for threeyearolds and it resulted in a rousing finish in which Earl Sande landed E Plaths Danby winner by a scant length over Walter M Jeffords I Florence Nightingale and Robert L Gerrys Peanuts was third with the Bud Fisher pair of Flagship and Swope bringing up the I I rear rearConditions Conditions were all that could have been desired for the sport and there was an j abundance of entertainment with seven races down for decision The crowd was an un ¬ usually offdayIt large one for an offday It was not until rounding into the front field for the run home that Barnes made a move with Silver Threads As he did so he quickly caught the tiring leaders and at the j last jump he was first over Vox Popull was right after him but on the flat the im ¬ ported gelding had enough left to hold an advantage of a length and a half at the end Vox Populi H was eight lengths before Mac duff and the others were badly strung out Of the nine that started the only one that did not complete the course was Desmond Dale The latter unseated Higgins at the fifteenth jump At the first jump E King was thrown to Amstellos neck but ha scrambled back in the saddle before taking the next obstacle obstacleNo No time was lost at the post in the Han ¬ over and the start was a good one Florence Nightingale at once went into the lead while Swope and Danby closely lapped raced after her with Peanuts fourth and Flagship soon dropping to rather a distant last lastSande Sande had Danby under a nice steadying restraint and he was content to go along j with Swope and in striking distance of the Jeffords filly This was the order to the Continued en sixteenth pace
