Here and There on the Turf King Colin Reversal Sun Altos Makes Good Master Charlies Record Program for Racelan4 It is so unusual for extreme form reversals to appear in the New York racing that it is small wonder that the performance of W A Rosens King Colin at Aqueduct on Thursday should attract wide attention At Belmont Park on June 13 King Colin could only finish fifth in a field of six arid he was beaten about seven lengths Thursday ha made a show of his opponents over the same distance at Aque ¬ duct and back of him soundly beaten was Brown Betty one that had easily beaten him in his previous bad race What made this bad race all ths more in ¬ excusable was the fact that in his race previous to that he had won with ridiculous ease It is impossible to reconcile the performances of this son of Colin in these three starts and if ever there were three races that merit in ¬ vestigation they have been run by this horse horseIt It was A Collins that rode him when he was an easy winner of a threequarters dash Then it was F Catrone that had the mount when he performed so disgracefully while the little black boy Hudgins was his jockey when ho won on Thursday When Collins rode this horse he was racing under the colors of William Hogan and since that tune he has performed for W A Rosen and it is under these circumstances that he showed his marked inconsistency inconsistencyNo No stretch of the imagination could make Caprone a capable jockey but it might be well to have it explained why Catrone is ridden on one occasion and Hudgins the next Then Catrono himself should bs asked a few ques ¬ tions for when he rode King Colin to defeat it was a surprisingly bad ride even for Catrone CatroneAltogether Altogether the performances of this horse have been such that cannot go unnoticed if the stewards are to retain confidence of the public so vitally essential to the welfare of the turf turfIt It would seem that G Frank Croissant made no mistake when he purchased Sun Altos from Mr Walkers Lilane Stable The first start cf this good son of Sun Briar and Los Altos saw him the winner from King Gorin II at Latonia in the mile and seventy yards of the Madison Pike Purse PurseWhile While racing for Mr Walker Sun Altos had been kept at the sprinting distances and he had no form over seveneighths but in this mile and seventy yards he was good enough to sprint all the way and hold King Gorin II perfectly safe at the end of the rac2 And it must be remembered that King Gorin II had shown in all his races that he was well suited by the distance This good beginning would suggest that Sun Altos will be a valuabh addition to the Croissant stable stableSince Since Mr Croissant came to the turf during the Miami meeting he has spent considerable money in an effort to gather together a good stable and it is fitting that he should succeed His most impartant purchase was Kentucky Cardinal purchased shortly before the running of the Kentucky Derby This threeyearold has been anything but a bargain up to this writing but Mr Croissant still has hopes for him and the racing season is comparatively young youngIt It is the intention to race the Croissant stable at the Hawthorne track and the young turfman has high hopes for agreeable results on his home grounds There is regret that it has been definitely decided that Master Charlie will notrace this year Last year when Andrew Blakdy nursed him along until he wound up the year ths greatest money winning twoyearold of 1924 it was something of a task The son of Lord Archer and Bachelors Choice was unsound all through his twoyearold season but Blakely campaigned him with such skill that he was kept going until late in the fall and was tha winner of seven races in twelve starts and on only three occasions was he out of the money But the big thing in the campaign was that he was ready for the important engagements engagementsHis His first stake victory was when he took the Tijuana Futurity with a net value to the winner of 9370 that was run in March Then Blakely had his cripple ready for a victory in the Colorado Stakes adding another 4650 to the score This was followed by thrqj de ¬ feats and then came the crowning triumph of his year when Master Charlie was first in the field of twentyfive that tried for the rich Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga Springs This brought 48700 to his total After this notable victory Master Charlie went en his winning way by annexing the Remsen Handicap under 130 pounds and worth 4650 a race cf a mile and seventy yards at Empire City and the mile dash of the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs that swelled his winnings by just 28 010 His only other start was in th2 Pimlico weightforage serial at a mile in which he finished a good second to the fouryearcld Sun Flag FlagThus Thus it will be seen that should Blakely find it impossible to bring the son of Lord Archer I back next year he has already earned a liberal degree of fame oh the American turf Program books for the opening days of the Raceland meeting have been distributed This meeting is to continue from July 9 to August 8 twentyseven days of racing and while there will be lively competition at Saratoga Springs Hawthorne in Chicago and Coney Island in Cincinnati there is every prospect that the meeting will not lack for horses or patronage Four stakes are down for decision during ths meeting and the richest of these is the Race land Derby with 5000 added over the mile and a quarter distance distanceThe The others are of 2000 added each and they ar3 the Ashland Handicap of a mile and a six ¬ teenth the Ircntonia Stakes of five and one half furlongs for twoyearolds and the Green up Handicap also for twoyearolds at three quarters quartersThe The Raceland Derby is to be decided July 18 and it should bring out a worthy field from the seventeen that are found in the eligible list
