WONDERFUL STIMULUS 1 Sunshine and Warmer Weather Boon to Louisville Training. • Stables of Harned Bros, C. E. Dur- nell and Part of McPherson String Among Late Arrivals. • TvOIISVILLK. Ky., April 14.— Sunshine and genial warmth greeted trainers at the local tracks this morning for the first time in a fortnight and the improved weather served as a wonderful stimulus in training opera-ti ms. which were conducted over drying out tracks. There were quit a few Derby works ami the most impressive of these from a time standpoint was witnessed at l ouglas Park when Ranton. Alex Gordons Candida to for the rich prize, went out in company with Cartoonist and negotiated three-eighihs in M%. The pair began at the seven-eighths i ost and worked to the three-quarters post. The l:erby colt showed to the Ix-st advantage and led his older rival all tin- way. Trainer Alex Gordon is well satisfied wilh the progress being made by ]:anlon and believes he will be ready to fill his early spring stake engagements. The roll and the other horses in Gordons charge will he shipped to Uelmont Park next "Wednesday where Ranton will be given his final preparation. His first start will probably be in the Preakncss at Iimlico and. after that race, he will be returned to Louis-rfHe to start in the Derby. Jack lianigan gave Take a Chance another tryout at seven-eighths at Douglas Park and the colt acquitted himself to the entire satisfaction of ids trainer.
