Pevics Dukedom scored his third victory of the present meeting when he annexed the sixth and feature race in commanding style at the j I Fair Grounds this afternoon. Jockey C. K. Allen took the winner to the outside of the early leaders. Lavinia and Stay On. while rounding the stretch turn and in the final eighth drew away easily. A thrilling finish developed in the fifth race, in which the first four horses reached the wire almost in alignment Little Romper only headed Move On Seth in the final stride while the latter just outstayed the fast fin-j i ishing Futen. For a welcome change the sun shone this afternoon and the track showed wonderful I I improvement as the afternoon progressed. A ; : fair sized crowd witnessed the sport. Margarette Martin drew away into an easy lead after rounding the far turn in the opening dash and held her opponents safe thereafter. Sentimental Tommie was a keen factor most of the way and proved to be j : best of the ohers. Request outstayed ■ j Sancho Pansy, the early leader for the show-honors. Pentecosts Last showed the way to the stretch in the second race, but Squire MeMasters took command at that point and drew clear of the others near the end. P.er-retta and Machiavelli divided the remainder of the purse as Pentecosts Last tired badly i during the stretch racing. Toomheola a nil Sandy H provided the closest finish of the afternoon, the former being awarded the decision after a hard stretch drive. Day of Peace saved the short end of the purse after racing prominently to the stretch. Although Helen Major and Hughie displayed the most early speed in the fourth race. Peter l,ee raced past the leaders in the final eighth and won. but pulled up lame. I Mrs. J. L. Prannons consistent performer.! ; Nine Sixty, has been nominated for the Derby, to be run here Saturday.
