MUD RUNNERS TO THE FORE Have Decided Advantage in Muddy Going at Akron — Richard Murray in Close Finish. AKRON, O., April 29.— Once more the races were run over a muddy track and only horses best suited by heavy going cut much figure in the division of the purses. The weather was cold and raw, but a crowd of usual nid-week day proportions witnessed the sport. Be Trueman made a runaway of the initial dash, but at the end was doing her best to retain a length lead over Miss Lcggo. which raced in closest pursuit throughout. Closing up strong on the outside of the leaders commencing the last quarter. Dusky Belle eventually scored a handy victory in the second. This marked tho first success of the meeting for Kugene Lutz. Machiavelli, the early pacemaker, barely lasted to save second place from the fast finishing Black Air. One of the best finishes of tho afternoon came with the running of tho third race, in which Bichard Murray just got up to beat Acquitted in the last couple of strides. Filibuster was a bang-up and fast finishing third. O. F Jenkins IVadfall accounted for the sixth and principal race of the card at Northampton Park this afternoon. He shook off New Moon after going half the distance, was never in trouble thereafter and hold Bock of Ages safe all .during the stretch run. New Moon was tiring at the end and doing his best to outlast Bomping Lad for third place. Catalan saved ground entering the stretch when Hliza Brown, the pacemaker, bore out which enabled him to score a handy victory from the latter in the fifth race. The success of Cassius marked the maiden victory for jockey J. Mazoue. In going to her liking Chestnut Girl made every post a winning one in the fourth but she was doing her best all through the stretch to earn the verdict by a length. The next three to finish were almost in a line, Harp of the North getting second place from Super Lady because the latter bore out near the end.
