BAGENBAGGAGE EASILY + Louisiana Derby Winner Makes Impressive Showing. * Barcolo, Another Idle Hour Farm Representative, Finishes Second — Too Much Bradley. * LEXINGTON. Ky., April 20. The Idle Hour Farm Stables reserve members, comprising Bagenbaggage. winner of the I,oui-siana Derby, and Barcolo displayed their Kentucky Derby wares to a local racing crowd this afternoon and after their performance, when they finished first and second, Bagenbaggage leading his stablemate to the finish, with five other Derby eligibles trailing, the onlookers readily admitted that the Bradley entry in the big Louisville fi ture would figure extensively in the result and also that sentiment and weight of numbers is certain to force the Idle Hour entry into favoritism. As a contest todays race was devoid of any outstanding incident. It was simply a case of Bagenbaggage, in prime fettle, racing as if far the best and he was never permitted to race in full stride at any part of the distance. Blind keeping him unele-r sharp restraint throughout and in the last sixteenth the rider was looking over his shoulder observing the brief battle of Bar-color and Percentage for second place. Comparison of Bagenbaggage and Bubbling Overs performance could not be truly made. The track this afternoon was somewhat dull, while Bubbling Over raced on a fast track. There was little to choose between the pair in the matter of their triumph. Both won with consummate ease, hard held at the finish. BARCOLOS FIRST START. It was Barcolos first essay for the- year and his race was also a good one. but his performance was so far overshadowed by his stablemate as to leave Barcolos effort onlv-ordinary. If the efforts of those that have started against the Bradley battery is a true line of their capability, they fall decidedly short of measuring up to a standard when-one can concede them chance of coping with either Bubbling Over or Bagenbaggage in the Derby. The principal stake, the Savoy Hotel Burse at the Futurity distance introduced another Kentucky Derby eligible in J. Swigert Taj -lors Prince Charles, which scored his maiden victory, Deating eleven others in the handiest manner possible. He was worked out after the race completing the mile journey in 1 :42%. Prince Charles was under restraint until just before reaching the stretch where he diew away in decisive style to win from Fairy Iore with Counsellor Connolly in third place. The main upset of the afternoons rat Ilia came in the sixth race, in which six two-year-olds engaged, and it resulted in a vie-tory for R. L. Bakers Jessie Belle, which led for the entire way and outstayed Aqui-tania, with Biddy Shipp in third place. Singing Cricket was an overwhelming favorite in the race but performed in dull fashion after being away slowly and also quit fast after reaching a contending position. IMPROVED WKATHKR. Improved weather resulted in an increased attendance, the patronage this afternoon being on a par with the best gathering that has witnessed racing here this year. Spectacular sport developed in most of the contests and furnished keen entertainment for the throng. Favorites were downed in the first two races. The opener found Helen Carter the winner. She was ridden by Dubois and came from far back during the last quarter to overhaul Battle On for the purse. Irish I-ace finished in third place. The best supported ones. Huon Pine and Boys Believe Me. tired fast during the stretch run. Boys Believe Me and Tender Seth dominated the earlier running, but gave way comphtelv when the real racing came. Twelve maidens met at four and a half furlongs in the second race, with Shup. carrying the colors of J. J. Bateman and trained by Harry Morrisse-y. leading for the entire way. beating home Edna Mae and Miss Chin quy. Both the latter were In the field and extensive support for the field caused then, to be at short odds on a par with Tee Hee. The latter displayed poor form and never figured seriously in the result, finishing in last place. An ordinary field furnished the contest in the third race, which was over the Futurity Course. It resulted in victory for Fast Mail which was up in the last twenty yarde to down Ice with Why, grouped with oth.-rs in the field, landing in third place. Why and lea were the leaders and engaged in humping for a period of the stretch run. both tired slightly near the end and it left Fast Mail coming with a rush to win out, drawing away. W. F. Schieds Gurgling Water is due shortly to foal to Tryste-r. The mare is to be returned to the court of the same stallion.
