HORSE ASSOCIATION MEETS Board of Directors Elected and Resolution Passed Congratulating Racing Commission. LEXINGTON. Ky.. April 29.— The Thoroughbred Horse Associations tenth annual meeting was held last night in the Palm Room of the Phoenix Hotel. The meeting followed a dinner given to the members by Col. E. R. Bradley, president of the organization. Messrs. Thomas C. McPowell. Charles H. Bcrryman, John S. Barbee and C. Bruce Head were elected to be members of the board of directors for terms of three years each. Other directors are : Messrs. E. R. Bradley, Pesha Breckinridge, W. E. Caskey, Jr., A. B. Gallaher. A. B. Hancock, T. P. Hayes. Hal Price Headley and Thomas Piatt The board of directors will meet Monday evening next when the election of officers for the ensuing year and other business will be transacted. The members last night adopted the following resolutions: Whereas, it became evident last fall that some of the races in Kentucky were not truly run and that a sinister influence was operating to the detriment of the sport and. Whereas, the action of the stewards of racing at Latonia in ruling off a jockey occasioned a confession on his part that he had been paid to pull a horse, and. Whereas, this confession resulted in the ruling off of another jockey and brought the condition sharply to the attraction of the Kentucky State Racing Commission, and. Whereas, the Kentucky State Racing Commission, arising promptly to the importance of this sinister influence, employed and empowered Samuel C. Nuckols to prosecute in its name, as thorough an investigation as possible, using what ever men and means that would be necessary to that end. and. Whereas, that investigation was made as directed and resulted in purging the turf of a jockey ring, therefore, be it, RESOLVED, that the Thoroughbred Horse-Association extends to the Kentucky Racing Commission and to Steward Samuel C. Nuckols its thanks and congratulations and that it urges all horsemen and others interested in the welfare of the turf to assist the commission and other governors of the turf in keeping it clean henceforth. Many things for the good of the organization and the turf generally were discussed and steps were taken to broaden the scope of the organization. Secretary Thomas R. Cromwell was empowered to employ William Woodard and other men if in his discretion and judgment they are required for field work. Secretary Cromwell stated today that Mr. Woodard has been employed as field man and that he is authorized to accept applications for membership and the payment of dues and to otherwise represent the organization. The association also has the services of J. J. Brady, Jr., who is located at Jamaica. N. Y., another field man will be employed for the territory west of St. Louis.
