MAYOR WALKERS TRIBUTE LOUISVILLE Ky May 15 Mayor Walker assured Colonel Winn next to being the chief executive of New York City the greatest honor that had ever been bestowed upon him was the invitation to present the gold cup to the Derby winner Mayor Walker asked Colonel Winn for a rain check and promised that he would never miss another Derby The Mayor said that without disloyalty to my home city I can say that I never in my life saw as many beautiful women nor as fine looking men as graced Churchill Downs upon this Derby day Not only was the track crowded with thoroughbreds but the clubhouse and the grand stand held fifty thousand other thoroughbreds Derby day has become a national event and for one day at least Churchill Downs becomes Jthe playground of America I have had a memorable visit to Kentucky liave been the recipient of innumer ¬ able courtesies and will never forget the charm and hospitality of its citi
