Dick Welles Selections SelectionsAt At Churchill Downs AXTIQUAKIAX G K A ITE W A HE HULLO HULLOIf If Perkins has Antiquarian up to a race and we are told that he lias he should prove best of those which meet in the opener His races at Jefferson Park were fairly good but he was meeting up with much stiffer competition than he will meet today GRAN ¬ ITE WARE was a real racer in his younger days and has been away from the races since 1924 If he is back to his old form as it is said he is he will let the others in the race know they have something to beat Everything depends on whether or not he is quite up to the test HULLO raced poorly in her first start here but can do much better than she showed then She was winner of her last two races at Tampa before being started here and we are inclined to believe that she will go much better today todayQUEEN QUEEN XAVARKE VITAXDIERE LOYAL LEGION LEGIONA A large and bulky band of maidens are scheduled to hook up in the second race and it is just one of those kind of races where it is better not to play than to play and get fooled Basing on past performances QUEEN NAVARRE seems to have the best chance In her last out here she ran second to Taudlane and put up a fair performance If she would run as kindly today she may be returned the winner VIVANDIERE showed her wares over the eastern courses last year and in her fjrst race here finished a good second to Peekaboo She is the dan ¬ ger in the race and stands a good chance of winning LOYAL LEGION has been working well and may be the one to get the show money All in all its a bad lot and the wisest thing to do is to pass this race raceTHE THE LEOPARD 11A31KIX THE ARCHER ARCHERTHE THE LEOPARD seems the best play in the third in fact the best play on the card He has gone the distance of one mile and threesixteenths before and is known to be able to travel the route succe sfully He did not race as expected in his two races here but since his last appearance was given a stiff workout for this race and did it in a most satisfactory manner That he is not going to have an easy time of it is assured through the reason that there are some other good performers in the race RAMKINS last race was one to suggest that he is Hearing top form When fit he is mighty dangerous company THE ARCHER will be making his first start here in the race and he seems to have a liking for the course Its an old saying Horses for courses and courses fcr horses horsesLRE5TE LRE5TE HOHAN COMRADE KHALEFA KHALEFAThe The speedy IRENE ROHAN figures to add another win to her credit when she meets up with ten other juveniles in the Highland Purse to be run as the fourth She demonstrated in her last out that her first win was no fluke by downing Ruane and Sixteen Sixty among some other good ones We are inclined to believe that she is a little better than rated and think she win score again today The one most feared in the race is COMRADE an easy winner here in his last out That performance was a decided improvement over his Lexington race and it may be that he too is a star in the making KHALIFA is one of J N Camdens favorites and he has good reason to be proud of him In his last three races he finished first once and second in the other two If he were to race as well today he should again share in the purse money SPORT TRAIL began his racing career aus ¬ piciously when he was an easy winner If that race wasnt a fluke he will bear watch ing here hereKING KING XADI CAPTAIX HAL LA EEX EEXA A good contest should result in the Louis ¬ ville Hotel Handicap to be run as the fifth Two stars of last year are to hook up here and at the weights we like KING IsADI the best over CAPTAIN HAL He was entered Saturday and win or lose the race should benefit him for todays test If he has retained his last year form he will make the race interesting and should be the winner Captain Hal came back to the races in a manner to suggest that he is going to prove a keen factor in the handicaps to be run this year He is asked to pick up eight pounds over that race and also give King Nadi five pounds That he will give a good account of himself is evident but dont think he can give the Latonia Championship winner weight and a beating LA VEEN gets in with 95 pounds and with that feather may land in third place placeGAY GAY HALLIE POMPAXO RUBY 31 31The The last two races run by GAY HALLIE were decidedly better than those she showed at Lexington and basing on those efforts think she will be good enough here to win She was thought to be a crack last winter while racing at New Orleans and while she turned in some good races never showed a great deal It may be that she is now near ing the form that will carry her to greater heights and if so should be the winner to ¬ day POMPANO turned in a good effort in her last out and if she were to run as kindly today should take care of the place money RUBY M proved a flop in her first start here but can do much better If she were to race as she did at Jefferson she should be the one to show showKING KING TUT CLOISTER EIGHT SIXTY SIXTYThe The W S Heaton racer KING TUT was scratched Saturday and seems to be dropped in a nice spot here True his last out here was not very impressive but that can be laid to the fact that he had not had a race In a good long while Today should bs dif ¬ ferent and if he would run one of his Jef ¬ ferson Park races think he wouldnt have much trouble in winning CLOISTER finally ful trys and rates next best to KING TUT He is bound to be in there fighting at the finish EIGHTH SIXTY can do much better than his last race indicated and should be able to at least get the show money LONG CHAMPS may be able to get in the money if his last race was a true indication of his form One Best Bet THE LEOPAED in Third Bace
