PARCO IMPRESSIVELY Qualifies for Kentucky Oaks in Splendid Performance Beats Florence Mills and Lakme in Dixiana Purse After Over ¬ coming Much Interference LOUISVILLE Ky May 21 The Dixiana Purse at a mile and seventy yards and serv Ing as a preliminary for the Kentucky Oaks to he decided the closing day of the present meeting was the stellar offering of the Churchill Downs racing offering for the afternoon It brought eight of the better regarded threeyearold fillies 10 the post and resulted in a victory for A B Hancocks Parco I lorence Stills finished in second place and Lakme third Parcos performance was impressive She suffered keenly at the first turn where she was forced back sharply due to crowding She was a considerable distance in back of the leaders in the early part of the race but she came steadily during the last quarter and wore down Florence Mills in the last seventy yards Florence Mills and In Bounds raced as a team in the early stages at a fast pace In Bounds being the first to tire Her elimina tion made it appear that Florence Mills would be the victress but she began tiring from her earlier efforts and was downed by Parco The crowding at the first turn caused inter ference to most of the starters and was due to Dubois inability to control In Bounds which came over closely on the others INTENSE HEAT PREVAILS Intense heat which prevailed here this afternoon did not seem to have effect of re ducing the attendance the usual banner crowd being on hand to view the excellent excellentsport sport in which favorites and second choices played a dominant part in the results The small fields served as added mediums for strong play the volume being on a par with some of the best mid week handled dur ing the current racing Dolly Bay a well supported favorite began auspiciously for the public when she led her opponents home in the opening dash She registered her victory handily from Ailcen V with Smacker showing the way to the theothers others Dolly Bay was always in the van anil led by a big margin after the first eighth Ailcen P made a good effort to overhaul the leader but was unsuccessful Smacker would have figured more promi ¬ nently under an energetic ride rideSCORES SCORES 1IY INCHES INCHESThe The Bloomfield Stable annexed a purse in the second race when its Ruane managed to beat home Florida Gold by a matter of inches Both were accorded strong backing Ruane coupled wtih Marshal Ney being most in demand It was a close call for Ruane as Florida Gold was pressing him hard and Scobies effort was somewhat feeble near the end Holy Friar finished in third place coming with a rush near the end to get that portion of the purse purseThe The Elks Hotel Purse also at a mile and seventy yards sharing feature with the fiftli race brought to the post some good ones including Helens Babe a Kentucky Oaks candidate She was making her first appear ¬ ance since she tried conclusions with Bubbling Over at Lexington She was meeting horses other than of her own age in the race but the finish found her battling it out with Huntsman another threeyearold and she triumphed by a short margin marginPhidias Phidias favorite in the third race was tho victim of a faulty ride bringing about his defeat The diminutive Dubois could not do him justice and he was kept in a pocket for the entire way resulting in Lo retta Brooks and Lady Von leading him home Loretta Brooks won in the closing strides due to W Garners superior jockey ship over S Steele SteeleThe The 13 J Hollandowned twoyearold Krick raced as if she outclassed the other starters in the fourth race and won in run ¬ away style from Eden with Aquitania in third place The contest for second place was a spirited one with Eden just lasting long enough Had Aquitania been ridden more vigorously in the earlier stages of the race she would have beaten Eden Old Iace was a sufferer soon after the start when she stumbled and after being far out of it came with good speed arid was pressing the leaders for a part of the purse
