SHOWERS AT THORNCLIFFE Change Track Conditions and Results in Many Withdrawals Jlrcvct Takes Inferno Iursr Chief Offering in inWhich Which Forecast II Fails After AfterMiserable Miserable Showing TORONTO Ont June 1 Claiming races predominated on the card at Thorncliffe this afternoon Two of the contests were for maiden twoyearolds one of which was for j Canadianbreds A change in track condi ¬ tions resulted in numerous withdrawals the fields in a majority of the races being ma ¬ terially reduced by the scratches Light Hhowers fell and the going was a bit sloppy Just before the running of the first race the Kim came out and bright skes prevailed for the remainder of the afternoon afternoonThe The Inferno Purse brought a field of seven to the past Forecast II a first time starter this year was made favorite with the Ross entry next in demand Both failed miserably The winner was Brevet which made a run ¬ away of the race and at the end beat Cloth JIall by half a dozen lengths Stretton rushed Brevet to the front when the start j came and after assuming an easy lead the rounding the far turn where she began drawing away The result was never after ward in doubt Push Pin was third four j lengths behind Cloth Hall and a neck in front of Manila Forecast II managed to Leat one horse in the nice McTab An upset came with the running of the first race when Bloomtip beat the Seagram entry FleurdeLis and Gay Parisian in hollow fashion The entry was heavily Kicked and went to the post a 1 to 4 choice Tht y were sent away promptly to a good Btart and Bloomtip beginning very quickly sprinted into a long lead Rounding the far turn Bloomtip drew away into a four lengths lead from Gay Parisian In the slretch run the latter began to tire while Flcur de Lis moved up Inside the furlong post it looked as if the latter would get to the leader but Bloomtip had a bit in reserve and hanging on well in the fipal drivc he managed to last Jong enough to win by a length and a half ilcur de Lis was an easy second and Gay Parisian a tiring third thirdMcrriinac Mcrriinac which was making his first start since the Dufferin Park meeting last fall wa an easy winner in the second race lliddeii by the unfashionable rider Piccirillo Jklerrhnac began in front but dropped back this first quarter Rounding the far turn he moved up stoutly and catching the pacemaker Veniztjlos tiring In the home stretch took command inside the eighth post to win going away at the end by three lengths Venzelos showed a Ipt of speed In the going He raced Into a contending lead in the early stages and looked to have the race sewed up enter lp the home stretch Then he began to tire Jacques wan third ahead in front of Shining Jlght Revelry usually a fast beginner was oftMlow and at the threeeighths pole stum bled and went to hLs knc H Florence Deen VIH never a factor and trailed along with the rear division all the way wayKiiciuiip Kiiciuiip made hla opposition look cheap in the third race He was away well and Thomas rushed him into a long lead Round ¬ ing the far turn he was five lengths in front of Theresa Joan He held the others safe at all stages and at the finish won eased up by a length and a half from All Virginia The latter finished fast but was driving at the end to stall off Kbuford which got up in time to beat out the tiringTheresa Joan a head for third place Bobby Jones was away slowly from the extreme outside and was never a factor
