BULLETIN IN FRONT Carries Polk Laffoon Colors Suc ¬ cessfully at Fairmount Leads All in Chief Attraction at Collins ville Track Surpris ¬ ingly Large Crowd Out COLLINSVILLE 111 June 1 After Saturday and Mondays hectic activities there was a noticeable falling off in attendance but a surprisingly large offday crowd was present at Fairmount Park The clubhouse contingent was particularly extensive and again consisted of representatives of St Louis and from nearby towns in southern Illinois IllinoisTiie Tiie offering was below standard the pros ¬ pect of a heavy track causing owners to refrain from entering their best charges The course contrary to expectations contained no moisture It was a trifle dull at the out ¬ set but rapidly improved and should be in perfect condition for tomorrows racing The racing strip here is a wonderful piece of ground and the drainage perfect perfectThe The lack of features did not prevent some spectacular sport highly pleasing to the crowd The offering could have been much improved with longer races Six races were under a mile five at threequarters and one at fiveeighths The last named brought out eight twoyearolds twoyearoldsSETHS SETHS A 11 III lISAriOIXT3IEXT lISAriOIXT3IEXTHigher Higher priced selling platers raced in the feature at threequarters and it enabled Bulletin carrying the colors of Polk I affoon vicechairman of the Kentucky State Racing Commission to score an impressive victory Bulletin led for the entire way and was well in h nd at the end to win with much in reserve Long Point hard urged succeeded in outstaying Lathrop for second place The disappointment in the race was Seths Alibi Mormile his rider gave an incompetent exhibtion on him and Seths Alibi as a result was never formidable after the first quarter Mark Master was another disap ¬ pointment that raced far in the rear of the others for the entire distance distanceFaulty Faulty riding was responsible for the down ¬ fall of another favorite when Sandalwoud was beaten by Paul Weidel II in the second race Sandalwood finished in second place and Equinox in advance of the others San ¬ dalwood was allowed to drop far out of it after the start and then raced into a pocket where he was unable to stride freely He was taken back to last place and raced around the entire field losing much ground as a result but he came fust in the stretch but was unable to overhaul Paul Weidel II The latter raced in his best form and was always prominent disposing of Kingsclerc with ease in the first half mile ICquinox came with a rush at the rul to take third place placeJIHYXIIEAU JIHYXIIEAU A SUKIMHSK SUKIMHSKA A surprise developed with the running of the introductory race whea Bryndear was home before Cresceus and Major Seth The latter was a pronounced favorite but under his incompetent rider he was all over the track and it brought aloit failure for him The winner gained rapidly during the stretch and drew away from the leaders in the last seventy yards Crcsceus began quickly arid showed good speed easily retaining second place when it came to the final drive Major Seth was urged hard near the end to out stiy Garr GarrBryndear Bryndear took the first raep handily She was ridden by G Collins Taking com ¬ mand in the stretch she WQII going away Cresceus showed good speed but tired when the real test came Major Seth was given i timid ride and just did make the show Garr tired at the end Turner turned in a dis ¬ appointing race Kindred outclassed the starters in the third race and was a handy winner She was a pronounced favorite and was kept under re ¬ straint behind Shining Gold until reaching the stretch where she drew out decisively t win as her rider pleased Shining Gold ds played some early speed but was no match for the winner She held second place safe Spats was inclined to run out all during the race and it cost him much ground He heUl on to third place however They were an ordinary band that started here 7 C McGills Shasta IMVU scored handily in the fifth race from the strongly backed Golden Laura The latter was probably the best but Philpot raced her wide during the last quarter whereas Shasta Love was rid ¬ den next to the inner rail enabling her to save much ground and wear down Golden Laura when straightened fcr the stretch racing Golden Laura came again near the end and but the for the loss of ground would have won Royal Rally was another victim of wide racing tactics ami lie wouldhave been closer up with better handling I ICol Col Matt Winn departed tonight for Chi ¬ cago where he will remain Until Thursday nfght before going on to I ctonia He will latermake a hurried trip to Now York Lwlurc returning here
