SPRING JUVENILE STAKES Furnish Thrilling Contest With All Callao the Winner Rooney Adds Excitement by Running1 Away AwayGoing Going to the Tost M Fator and Flagship FlagshipFrore Frore a Winning Combination BALTIMORE Md May 13 The Spring Juvenile Stakes which was provided as an attraction at Pimlico this afternoon fur ¬ nished a stirring contest in which the Green tree Stables All Callao was the winner over Solace after a long hard stretch drive Passing the winning mark the first four were in a compact bunch All Callaos margin was a scant halflength and the next three Solace Thuron and Polish were noses apart apartAdded Added excitement was lent to the running of the stake when Rooney racing in the colors of Wm Garth and ridden by J C Mergler got the better of his rider while on the way to the post and ran away awayHe He went the wrong way of the track and when he reached the gate leading off the track at the halfmile post he bolted over the fence and fell Quickly scrambling to iis feet he continued on his way riderless and tore through the outside gate on to Bel videre Avenue The last seen of Rooney he was on his way to the Green Spring Valley The stewards ordered the starter to dispatch the field without Rooney AH bets on the colt stbod according to the rules of the Maryland Racing Commission which stipu late that after horses leave the paddock they are in the hands of the starter and all bets stand whether they start or not Jockey Meg ler escaped with a shaking up upEMERYS EMERYS ROUSING FINISH FINISHEmery Emery put up a rousing finish on True Pal in the opening race and had him half a length in front of Birdwood The latter began fast and set the pace until the final eighth where True Pal caught him It was a desperate drive between the two all through the last sixteenth and at the end Emery outrode young Mergler Fair Anita was a tiring third Fire Fairy heavily backed was never prominent Usually a fast beginner she left the barrier slowly and never ap ¬ peared able to improve her position Bird wood was in rather close quarters next to the inside rail at the end and Mergler claimed a foul against the winner which was not allowed allowedDanger Danger Signal was an easy winner from Alex Woodliffe in the second race She was ridden by Hudgins went to the front after passing the halfmile post and held command for the remainder of the distance Alex Woodliffe made a desperate effort in the stretch but could never get to the winner who had a margin of a length to spare at the finish There was a tip on Finland in this race It was his first start in months but the dockers had turned in good reports which accounted for the good support ac ¬ corded him When it came to running Fin ¬ land was never dangerous Mergler was unable to control him and the horse was all over the track finishing on the extreme out ¬ side Saratoga Maje which turned in a good performance in his previous effort was never a factor factorM M Fator and Flagship proved a winning combination in the third race When the start came Flagship left the post fast and Fator rushed him into a threelength lead on the first turn On the back stretch he took him under slight restraint and when Hedgefence made his bid he let Flagship and again drew away He held the others safe at all stages but in the stretch drive had to be shaken up a bit to stall off Allfrey At the end Flagship had a lead of a length Hedgefence began flatfooted and was as good as left at the post
