COUGHLIN COLT WINS Chicagoans John P Grier Young ¬ ster Gets Up in Final Strides Plater Day Program at Aurora AuroraResults Results in Some of Best BestRacing Racing of Meeting AURORA III May 20 Claiming races comprised the offering provided for patrons at Exposition Park today and out of these contests some of the best racing witnessed at this course resulted Two of the races in particular furnished contests of the stirring variety Finishes extremely close occurred and the performances of some of the con ¬ testants was remarkable After the note ¬ worthy accomplishment of J J Coughlins twoyearold Sheepshead Bay which fur ¬ nished one of the principal incidents of the afternoon in accounting for the twoyearold race in a hectic stretch drive another of these finishes occurred in the fifth race re ¬ garded as the best and most important offer ¬ ing on the program programPaula Paula Shay carrying the bulk of the sup ¬ port in this race was an oddson choice but at no stage of the journey was she capable of taking the lead and was well beaten by the two that led her to the finish Dr Lar rabee and Rodrigo were lightly backed and rewarded their respective backers with hand ¬ some returns for their investments investmentsFavorable Favorable weather for the sport was the rule this afternoon while the racing strip was still showing the effects of the recent rains and todays races were decided over a slow course courseTHIRD THIRD TICTORY TICTORYBob Bob Spalding scored his third success of the meeting when he easily took into camp the ten others which tried conclusions in the opening race at threequarters of a mile Silent Lillian barely lasted to save second place by a nose while Bathilde Seth took down the minor end of the purse The three placed ones were mostly in the van of the others the entire way and after staging a close struggle with Silent Lillian Bob Spalding got the better of the mare an eighth out and drew away decisively near the end Bob Spalding was the most fancied here hereQuin Quin Chin which races for J J Russell was returned the winner over the threequar ¬ ters of the second event staged under claim ¬ ing conditions J L Pauls Miss Mischief took second place while The Abbot wound up in third place The Abbot was one of the more prominent choices as was Monastery which finished fourth Miss Mischiefs early speed saw her safely in the lead until the field was nearing the last eighth in the stretch where she appeared to tire suddenly and her already large lead was rapidly re ¬ duced by the fast finishing Quin Chin until the latter was soon in advance of the tiring leader and came to the finish with much to spare spareJ J J Coughlin broke into the winning column for the first time at the meeting when trainer J J Holtman saddled Sheeps ¬ head Bay and sent the colt out with the nine other starters in the third race at five eighths for twoyearolds Sheepsheal Bay a chestnut colt by John P Grier Bay of Pleasure showed quality in his race today when after racing in the last place to the stretch the youngster began moving up gradually and working his way past the oth ¬ ers one by one wore them down until he was on even terms with Peep O seventy yards out Peep O a forward factor from the start was well spent and it was easy for Sheeps ¬ head Bay to gain a half length advantage over the latter which was maintained to the finish Hayess Choice took third place placeEASY EASY FOU FOKKTOLI FOKKTOLIForetold Foretold scored another for H G Bed well in the mile and seventy yards fourth race Seven fair platers started here and Pat Field coming from far back in the stretch took second place while Shasta Irish after a vain effort to overhaul the leader in the last eighth took third Zoya was the early leader and set a fast pace until after making the final turn where the ultimate winner challenged her and having the most in reserve moved into the lead and managed to hold Pat Field safe at the end when ridden hard Foretold was ridden by jockey R De Prema and was the favor ¬ ite the second to score scoreSix Six good ones started over one mile under claiming conditions in the fifth race A closely fought finish was the outcome in which Dr Larrabee Rodrigo Paula Shay and Cross Bow took prominent parts Dr Cardenas and Norseman were the other two starters but were outrun by the others and never figured extensively in the outcome outcomeM M Lowes Dr Larrabee was winner by a matter of inches from J J Buffingtons Rodrisfo while Unna and Jones Paula Shay finished in third place before Cross Bow whioh finished fourth Dr Cardenas was a head back of Cross Bow in fifth place while Norseman was far back
