INAUGURATION OF FAIRMOUNT PARK RACING High Class Sport to Be Provided for Patrons of Track Near St Louis Thirteen Speedy Sprinters Named for 5000 Col limville Handicap Conditions for Great Meeting Never More Promising COLLINSVILLE 111 May 27 Racing on a high plane will be introduced to enthusiasts of the sport in the southern section of Illinois when the Fairmount Jockey Club inaugurates its meeting of thirtytwo days Saturday The meeting will be carried on to July 4 At no time have conditions been more promising for the sport in these parts The superior quality of horses to participate at this meeting is one of the main factors for the improvement Formerly Fairmount Park has been handicapped by the absence of good racing material excepting in stake features Some notable contests have come in the valuable fixtures and the desperate duel between Haste and Bagenbaggage will always be memorable to the 40000 spectators who witnessed the finish of the 1926 Fair mount Derby DerbyArrivals Arrivals of representative stables have been continuing during the past week and all available stable space is alloted Among the most recent consignments to reach here are crack horses that have registered victories in various racing courses throughout the country For the first time also there is an extensive eastern representa ¬ tion to be here for the entire meeting meetingNothing Nothing has been overlooked by general manager C Bruce Head that would aid in the success of the coming meeting and the opening tomorrow is expected to find an at ¬ tendance of record proportions newcomers this morning was H D Brown whose extensive string of sev ¬ enteen horses arrived last night They came from Mr Browns Shasta Farm in Cali ¬ fornia and were delayed in reaching here due to illness of the crack colt Shasta Bullet necessitating the shipment being held up for several days along the route routeMr Mr Brown will remain here until Saturday night when he returns to Chicago to con ¬ tinue his activities with his contemplated con ¬ struction of a modern racing course on the North Side He stated that he would be ready to announce the exact location of his proposed track next week weekE E B McLeans Prince of Wales which will be a starter in the Collinsville Handicap the opening days feature came in charge of Louis Tauber The colt arrived in good style and C Lang who will ride him came from Louisville this morning Prince of Wales will be shipped back to Louisville Sunday Jock which will carry the McLean colors in the Fairmount Derby to be run next Sat ¬ urday will be here Thursday and will come in charge of trainer John Schorr SchorrAmong Among the owners to arrive Friday morn ¬ ing were J C Gilam J S Owenby Nugent Brothers C Wissinger L Riber R J Pow ¬ ers W C Weant T J Carroll and several others They all brought considerable con ¬ signments Joseph A Murphy was an arrival this morning from Chicago to serve with Major McDowell on the license committee here Mr Murphy will shortly leave for Omaha where he will be the presuming steward stewardSecretary Secretary J B Campbell advised that he would arrive Monday ready to assume his duties dutiesH H Elston who will ride for the Brown Shasta Stable was an arrival from Cali ¬ fornia this morning morningH H Philpot was another addition to the riding ranks here hereChas Chas Irby is among the latest comers that contemplates campaigning his big racing string here throughout the meeting meetingA A considerable number of nominations to the Decoration Day Handicap which fea ¬ tures Mondays racing were received today The race is at a mile and a sixteenth and will bring out some of the best here hereAll All members of the official family have been here for several days attending to final details The
