NIMBA OUTRUNS FAIRNESS War Cloud Filly Easily Defeats J E Widener Miss at Belmont Amazon Purse Feature of Westclicstcr Race RaceAssociations Associations Friday Program Cold Weather Prevails NEW YORK N Y May 27 Fillies started in the best Tacc on the Westchester Racing Associations program today It wasj a threequarter mile condition affair for threeyearold misses and George Odom furnished the winner in Nimba the daugh ¬ ter of War Cloud which by a rush through the final eighth took the measure of Joseph E Wideners Fairness with R C Winmills Bonnie Khayyam saving third place from La Diva Nimba raced under the silks of the Rolling Plains Stable There was a change to bright sunshine this afternoon but the weather was unseasonably cold with a high wind blowing over the course to make it disagreeable disagreeableSeven Seven started in the Amazon the name given this filly feature that fell to Nimba and before the race it was agreed that the field was a particularly well matched one oneJumbo Jumbo was particularly alert at the bar ¬ rier but as she left La Diva was sent after her and succeeded in keeping the Rancocas filly exceedingly busy Sande was not far back with Fairness and nearing the stretch turn lie slipped through on the inside to take the command commandTurning Turning for home Fairness looked all over a winner but Nimba was ready to take up the running when her stable companion La Diva was through and an eighth out she was coming with a rush on the outside that made both Sande and Fairness show their best efforts It was of no avail and Nimba raced past until at the end she had a length and a half to spare Fairness held to second place and she was three lengths be ¬ fore Bonnie Khayyam another that finished gamely gamelyJUMBO JUMBO QUITS BADLY BADLYJumbo Jumbo quit badly in the stretch run and when she was beaten she was not punished by Fator with the result that La Diva beat her for fourth place Henrietta Wildair which has come to be a real gocd sort of a juvenile was winner of the opening four arid a half furlongs dash over the Widener Course She had something to spare at the end when she led home Polls from the Aknusti Stable with One Cent from the stable of Samuel Ross the Wash ¬ ington sportsman third thirdI I Hope So left the post running and for a time he led the field but he soon gave way to Henrietta Widair and once the filly was in command she never left the result in doubt doubtIt It was a close finish that came out of the second race when Jeff Livingstons Junetta under a long drive just lasted to beat th Rancocas Stables Grange by a head with Ominous from Robert L Gerrys Aknusti Stable a rather distant third thirdIn In this it was Ominous that cut out the running and through the early stages he was a couple of lengths clear with Junetta galloping strongly back of him and under a slight restraint Mica was close at hand while Grange was slow to be under way and was racing on the outside of the com ¬ pany panyIt It was at the head of the stretch that Junetta put both Ominous and Mica away and she went into a good lead Then an eighth out Fator charged up on the outside with Grange and right to the end he con ¬ tinued to close but Junetta stuck it out gamely under the drive and she was still a head to the good at the end while the pair of them were three lengths before Ominous OminousFrom From the upper end of the grandstand there were many of the opinion that Grange was the winner but those close to the line agreed that there was absolutely no doubt of the filly having lasted to win by a good head headCOMPENSATION COMPENSATION PROVES BEST BESTRather Rather an ordinary band of platers met in the mile of the third race and T P Harts Compensation proved best when she led home W B Mitchells Mikado with Plain Polly from the Sagamore Stable just lasting to save third from Mis Swenkes Delhi Boy BoyPlain Plain Polly was the one to force the pace and through the early stages Toney Dixon raced along with her but he was put away before the stretch Wtis reached Compensa ¬ tion was outrun early but she worked her way up steadily until turning for home she had reached a contending position positionThrough Through the final eighth Plain Polly tired badly and Compensation went by readily while Mikado also caught the tiring pace ¬ maker in the final rush Delhi Boy as usual was badly outrun to the stretch and when too late he was racing over his com ¬ pany in gallant fashion The others cut no figures in the racing racingThere There was a close finish in the four and a half furlongs maiden juveniles race that was the fifth when Jack Dempsey from the Canyon Stable just outstayed J E Wideners Montanic with John E Maddens Muriatic rather a distant third thirdEarly Early in the race Johnny Callahan found a front pcsition with Jack Dempsey and when Sande ranged alongside with Montanic it appeared for an instant that the Widener colt would race past but Callahan rode his mount well and the pair were locked all through the final eighth with Jack Dempsey just a head in front Muratie was four lengths back in third place Black Gal from the Hamilton Farms Stable was fourth and it was apparent that she was capable of doing much better betterArgus Argus which bore the Max Hirsch silks was bumped at the start raced prominently for a time but was quitting badly in the final eighth eighthAt At the end of the program T O OBriens Forecaster proved easily best of the platers platersthat that started in a mile and an eighth contest contestHe He was rushed into a long lead and was
