w STATUS OF JOCKEY GRASSIA BOWIE, Md., April 11.— It develops that jockey Grassia. who has been riding for the past year as an apprentice, was not entitled to the five-pound allowance. Dr. J. H. Spicer, of Media. Ohio, who held a contract on the boy, cancelled the agreement some eighteen months ago. and the lad was a free lance. J. A. Guciardo presented a paper to the Maryland racing stewards signed by J. Guciardo and witnessed by Sidney Bender, which was supposed to be a transfer of a contract to Guciardo Bros, from Dr. Spicer. It is proved that no transfer had ever been made, consequently jockey Grassia was never under contract to anyone since the termination of his agreement with Dr. Spicer, and consequently wa_- not entitled to the five-pound allowance. Grassia in the meantime lias ridden 116 winners.
