Velie of Kansas City, Mo., who maintains the Velie Stock Farm at Blue Springs Mo. and who has been a visitor here for the past few days, left Sunday on a business trip to Chicago and from there will go to Blue Springs. With Rush McCoy, manager of his farm, Mr. Velie inspected the small stable of horses which he has here in the care of John Hazel-wood. They were impressed with the appearance of all and especially that of The Begum II., a gray filly by Prince Phillip-Winnow, which Mr. Velie has named for the Ashland Oaks. The Begum II., along with Laudation, also a three-year-old filly, and a • bay from Prince Phillip and Laudatory, and the stock horse Prince Phillip, were imported from Ireland by Mr. Velie two years ago. The latter, with Assagai, is standing at the Velie farm, where Mr. Velie has eighteen mares by such sires as Star Shoot, Uncle, Celt. The Finn and others. Blue Delay, a two-year-old bay filly by Assagai — Blue Cap, and Harpoon, a bay gelding by" Assagai — Fairy Star, and also two years old, are among the Velie horses in training here. * _
