i , WILLINGDON DONATES CUP Governor-General Gives Trophy for Race at Connaught Park on Saturday, June 9. OTTAWA, Ont., May 8 —Announcement was made recently by Hon. Senator Belcourt. president of the Connaught Park Jockey Club, that His Excellency Lord Willingdon. governor-general, had donated a silver cup to be run for in connection with the spring meeting at Connaught Park, June 6 to 13, inclusive. The race will be for three-year-olds and upward, and will be over a distance of a mile and seventy yards for a purse of ,500. Conditions for the race will be published later. It is planned to hold the Willingdon Cup race on Saturday, June U, on which c.ate their excellencies. Lord and Lady Willingdon, will drive to Connaught Park in state. They will proceed to Connaught Park, accompanied by an escort of the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They will witness the jockey club program from the vice-regal box and his excellency will present his cup to the owner of the winning horse. President Belcourt, Col. George P. Murphy, Allan Ross and secretary Thomas Gorman will go to Maryland next week in the interests of Connaught Park and will also visit several of the New York tracks. They hope to have some of the prominent American owners send up candidates for the Willingdon Cup race. On the night of the Governor-Gene: als Cup race president Belcourt and the Connaught Park Jockey Club directors will tender a dinner to the visiting horsemen and invitations to this function will be issued to representatives of all the leading Canadian racing associations. It is also understood that their excellencies, on the night of Monday. June 11, will give racing another historical boost with a ball at Government House in honor of the jockey-club and its officials. Eugene Bury, who held down the position so capably last summer, has been re-appointed racing secretary for this years meetings. He will officiate in a similar capacity at Fort Erie and Dorval. Connaught Park will again race under the auspices of the Canadian Racing Associations, and the complete list of officials will be decided upon with a few days. Mortimer Mahoney will again be in charge of the pari-mutuel department. The work of preparing Connaught Park for the annual race meetings is already under way.
