■ At Aurora One Best Bet — SHASTA GOLD — In the Fifth Race. c £ r J j ! « . t i j j i Some pood racing is in prospect for patrons of the sport at Aurora today, for another i good card of seven races is down for decision, with the Batavia Handicap as the stellar attraction. This race is over the mile distance and engages a small band of the better grade. Included among the entrants is Devon, Shasta Gold and Rip Rap. These three appear to be the best of the race and should be found among the first three when the finish is readied. The rest of the program is made up of claiming affairs, but evenly matched fields are to compete in most of the events and some good racing should result. There are three numbers to be decided over the three-quarters distance, while there are two tests of a mile and an eighth and another at a mile and a sixteenth. GO FOIX— GO A AVAY— TRINKET. For the winner of the first race we are selecting the gelding GO FOIN. He has shown signs of returning to his best form, all of his starts over this track being creditable. The field opposing him does not call for much and a race at his best today should find him home an easy winner. GO AWAY may cause GO FOIX some trouble here for, taking a line on her last race, which was a second to Secrecy, she seems to be in her best form. TRINKET should be able to hold the short end of the purse safe from the rest of the field. In his past races he has shown enough speed to warrant him consideration against this band. STAR GIRL— JIM BETHEL— WAPONOCA. Another band of platers which prefer the three-quarters distance for their best efforts will hook up in the second race, under claiming conditions. The gocd mare STAR GIRL, which Taced with much success over the Havana track the past winter, looks the best of those entered. She i.? a speedy miss over the sprint distances and this field will have to travel o keep her from landing the major portion of the purse. On the improvement JIM BETHEL showed in his last race he will have to be figured as the most probable one to make STAR GIRL give her best to win. He is getting weight off over his last race and this should be to his advantage. WAPOXOCA figures thiid best, with DOLLY DUNBAR given an outside chance to get in the picture. THEO. FAY— RIVAL— TOWED VENGEANCE. O. L. Fosters THEO. FAY. though he is asked to shoulder 119 pounds, has to be given the call in the third number. The way he won his last two races makes him look all over the winner here. He will carry only a pound more today than he did in his last race, but the distance will be a little longer and, for this reason, he may have to race at his best to add another win to his record. RIVAL should be able to get in the pay-off for he showed he was not far off from winning form in his last race. VOWED VENGEANCE should prove dangerous, for he is getting nine pounds off over his last winning race and, though we doubt if he can step with the first two mentioned, he should I i I be able to account for some part of the money. OPEX HAND— JENNIFER— MARENGO. The fourth offering calls for a race over the one mile and a sixteenth distance, and it engages eight platers from the older division to make up the field. OPEX HAND may be the one to prove the winner. He finished fast in his last race, after getting away to a poor start. With a little more racing luck today he Should be able to turn in a good winning effort. JEXNIFER gets in under a light impost and, with a good win to her credit in her last race, will take plenty of beating today. MARENGO also was a winner the last time out and, on the form he showed in that effort, has to be given a good chance to finish up with the leaders here. SHASTA GOLD— DE VOX— RIP PAP. The Batavia Handicap, feature number on the card, brings out a small, but select, band to race over the mile distance. SHASTA GOLD, which finished a bang-up second to Flora M. in the Inaugural Handicap, is our choice to win this event and she appears to be the best betting proposition of the day. She gets in with 104 pounds and. at the weight, should not have much difficulty in landing the major portion of the purse. DEVON put up a good effort in his first start here and he looms as the most probable danger. He possibly needed that last race of his and should improve over that showing. RIP RAP, which is coupled with BONNIE OMAR as the C. B. Irwin entry, seems to be the best of the others. DUNBEATH— JUNIORS XUUSE— JUDGE CAVERLY. DUNBEATH, which was winner of his race Monday and then sent right back again yesterday, is tabbed to account for todays sixth offering. How he fared yesterday is not known at this writing, but the form he displayed in his winning race Monday was such to suggest that he is going to be a hard horse to beat here. JUXTORS XURSE, winner of her last start, seems to be the most probable contender. She was an easy winner and only has to go in the same style today to make her presence felt. JUDGE CAVERLY is on the improve and may be good enough to land the short end of the coin if he races in his best manner. APPLECROSS— SAN IRAE— CAPTAIN ADAMS. APPLECROSS continued on his winning ways when he accounted for the purse in his first start over this track. Previous to that effort he was winner of his last start at Havana, as well as many other races there, and he only has to put forth the same efforts today to make it three in a row. He is to pack considerable weight today, but even that should not prevent him frcm winning, as he is in his best possible condition at the present time. SAXDRAE finished third to APPLECROSS in their last meeting and he needs to improve but slightly over his last effort to land the place money here. CAPTAIN" ADAMS may prove best of the others for the show money.
