• ft From Scene of Derby $ The annual Chicago-Louisville Derby specials of Al Bloom, OConnor and Ettelstein, Joe Coffey, Sammy Wolff, the numerous "VVindy City clubs and organizations reach here early Saturday morning. These are in addition to the regular and special trains operated by the various railroads. Maj. Frederic McLaughlin, president of the American National Jockey Club, and his large party, arrived today from Chicago. Major McLaughlins private car was used by the enthusiastic party here to pull for a victory of one of the Chicago-owned starters in the Derby. William E. Smith, president of the Standard Oil Company of Kentucky and recently elected vice-chairman of the State Racing Commission, and Mrs. Smith, will have as their guests over the Derby week-end Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Wom-ack, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Carter, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Weiss and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Farish, all of Houston, Texas. Ben Alexander, banker, and Brown Katz-enback, lumber dealer and capitalist of Wau-pau, Wis., will make a non-stop flight from Washington, D. C, to Louisville, arriving Saturday to attend the Kentucky Derby. A new Stinson monoplane will be used for the flight. Gene Tunney, worlds heavyweight boxing champion, is said to be one of a large party coming from New York for the classic race. Among the editors and publishers expected to attend the running of the race are: Norman E. Mack of the Buffalo Times, Edward B. McLean of the Cincinnati Enquirer and Washington Post, Bernard MacFadden of the New York Graphic, Philadelphia News and other publications, Maj. John S. Cohen of the Atlanta Journal, Merle Crowell of the Crowell publications, Charles A. Segner of the Chicago Post, and numerous other newspaper and magazine executives. William Green, president of the American Federation of Labor ; Matthew J. Carney of the Union Carbine Company of New York, pLoy Carruthers of the Book-Cadillac Company of Detroit, Harold H. Helm of the Chemical National Bank, New York ; Bascom Slemp of Y"ashington, Silas H. Strawn of the First National Bank of Chicago, and J. Werne of the Great Northern Railway are named among the distinguished men of the country coming to Louisville as guests of Governor Sampson. Will Hayes, movie czar, and Edward Colla-day, national councilman of the District of Columbia, are among the prominent visitors expected from the East tomorrow. R. Fairbairn of the New York Jockey Club, and owner of a number of horses in training and breeder, will miss seeing the Derby this year. Mr. Fairbairn is making a trip abroad and his absence from the Downs tomorrow wiil be the first in a number of years.
