KAUKA was rushed to tlic front soon after the start and. opening up a good lead in the stretch, had enough left to withstand the closing challenge of SAM ISCIIHIt. The latter closed very fast on his own courage and was gaining rapidly at the end. STRIP broke quickly and was well up throughout. COLLEGE INN showed improvement. COME ALONG broke slowly, but quickly raced into contention and, coming fast on the outside in the stretch, wore down the leaders and got to the front near the end. WOODBURN raced close up "from the start and came gamely to the end. AVOODFACE saved ground in the stretch and headed the others, but was weakly ridden near the end. TERRY OMALLEY followed BAY LAD closely in the early racing, took the lead when the latter tired and drew away when BUSY BOY challenged in the stretch. The latter raced into a pocket an the far turn, but squeezed through on the inside approaching the final turn and challenged the winner at mid-stretch, but was tiring fast from his early efforts at the end. SHASTA WHOOPEE moved up with a rush nearing the stretch turn and, closing with a rush, got to the front near the end and won going away. QUEEN ANN took the lead in the stretch and appeared the winner near the end, but her rider was caught napping when SHASTA WHOOPEE staged her rush. PROVO took a good lead after going a quarter, but tired in the final drive. RED PLUME was badly outrun in the early racing. CELYANE was in close quarters and was shuffled back on the far turn. pctUT C VPTAIN was sharply shut off on the far turn. PALS MEADOWS showed speed for a half mile.
