The latter followed the pace under steadying restraint for the first half mile, moved up fast on the stretch turn, but could not overtake the winner. POLITEN moved up with a rush in the first quarter mile and saved ground, was blocked at the eighth post, but came again on the outside and disposed of RUMOR in the final drive. The latter, a forward contender all the way, tired in the stretch. WILD FLOWER raced under pressure throughout. BROWN ERIN could never get up. KINGS CRIER was shuffled back in the first sixteenth and closed a big gap. The latter, away well, but shuffled back in the run out of the chute, came outside the leaders and made a game effort in the stretch, but tired. SMEAR, alert at the start, was crowded back, got through on the inside and outlasted PRINCE APOLLO in thu final drive. The latter was knocked off his stride on the turn out of the back stretch and raced better than the chart shows. TRAITOR finished fast. PANDA displayed J j good speed, but was taken back of the early pace, finished gamely when straightened out in the stretch j and held RUEFUL safe. The latter, on the inside for five-eighths, closed fast on the outside of TEW- J j SEXELDA through the stretch, hut could not overtake the leaders. The latter was pocketed leaving the back stretch and, crowded back, gradually improved his position when clear and would have been second in a few strides more. WAYFARER moved up fast on the stretch turn, but tired in the stretch. PLAYA1SIT finished gamely. PRIXCE TOY tired in the final quarter. TALKY quit. FAIR ARGUMENT, crashed into at the start by MASTER SWEEP and POTENT, closed an immense gap. DOCTOR FRED tired after going three-quarters. POTENT quickly straightened out at the start and ran evenly. PAT CALHOUN ran an even race. FOREST LORE quit after early display of speed. FIRE ON was jumped on and badly cut entering the stretch and was pulled up.
