BALLYHOO began fast and, kept close up under restraint for three-eighths, worked his way into the lead under brisk urging and outstayed WISE TALK. The latter began sluggishly, was forced to lose ground and, closing fastest of all, just failed to get up. ZEAN showed speed from the start, lost ground on the turn, but went to the inside in the stretch and held on well thereafter. ESSENTIAL, hustled along from the start, had no mishaps and tired under pressure. BETTERFLY had no mishaps. REGUSTED failed to improve his position. JUSTINA showed good speed from the start, shook off ANTE BELLUM after a quarter, gradually increased her advantage approaching the stretch and, holding on gamely under pressure, outstayed PERKINS. The latter, never far back, was taken to the inside on the turn, saved ground thereafter and closed gamely. GETTIN EVEN, rated along under restraint for three eighths, closed fast. HONEY HUNTER tired after racing fonvardly to the last sixteenth. FORTERS DREAM, fractious at the post but away fast, was taken back, then improved his position rapidly near the stretch, where he missed the interference and, wearing down BAND TIME, won easily. The latter showed good speed, took the lead under hard driving and tired in the closing eighth, but outlasted CATHERINE FOX. The latter began slowly. CHU CHU, close up, was in the jam on the stretch turn and appeared to bear out in the closing stages. GRAND CHAMPION lacked early speed. BETTY DERR, well ridden, forced the pace under reserve, drew into clear command slowly after reaching the stretch and, holding on well, was going steadily in the final stages. JUSTINIAN, far back the first half mile, came through on the inside in the stretch, closed much ground with a rush, but weakened in the final strides. OSWEGO, rated along back of the early pace, saved ground to the stretch, where he went to the outside and closed with good courage. ALYSSUM closed strongly. SCUTTLE, also far back early, improved her position, but tired in the last eighth. PITTSBURGHER moved up after half a mile, but tired in the last eighth. JOEY BIBB dropped back suddenly after seven-eighths and pulled up sore. ALL HAIL quit in the last quarter. KNIGHTS CALL showed speed under urging, but quit. BOYS HOWDY was done after going a mile. The latter, a factor from the start, saved ground and had no mishaps. HARAMZADA had a rough trip. HAPPY LAD raced wide in the last three eighths. LEMNOS bore out badly on the stretch turn.
