PROMETHEUS WINS HANDICAP Padgett Colorbearer Outstays Patricia Marian at Bainbridge Park — Tempus Triumphs. CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 27.— Mrs. J. R. Padgetts Prometheus captured the second Cleveland Press Handicap, which served as the principal attraction at Bainbridge Park this afternoon and was run as the fifth race. G. Collins Patricia Marian, and Fred Almys La Belotte divided the minor portions of the purse, finishing in the order named, with Lucky Dan following. As the start came La Belotte sprinted to the front closely followed by Prometheus. Entering the back stretch jockey J. M. Jones sent the Padgett colorbearer into the lead, and well rated, he was never seriously threatened thereafter, winning with speed in reserve. Patricia Marian, never far from the leaders, gained steadily in the stretch and wore down La Belotte in the last seventy yards. The latter raced in closest pursuit of the winner to this point, but tired. Lucky Dan and Druggist gained ground, but Crash tired and was eased up in the stretch when it appeared he was beaten. Rain during the night left the track slow for the haf-holiday program. Overhead the conditions were ideal, and an excellent crowd witnessed the sport, which was entertaining. The Carleton Stables Tempus removed all doubt as to his superiority over the two-year-olds racing here when he won the third race from the best band of juveniles that could be assembled at this course. The field included the three rivals, Tempus, Fred Almy and Noahs Pride, with Thunder Stone and Cloido contenders. When the final drive came Tempus drew away into a clear lead, while Fred Almy finished well in advance of the others.
