CELTIC PRINCE began well and, after following the pace closely to the stretch, took command and won easily. CHICAGO GIRL could not reach the leaders in the early stages, but finished well to outflnish the others. GOLD BET met with interference and showed a good performance. BY MISTAKE was in close quarters in the stretch and will bear watching. KULAMAN dashed to the front approaching the far turn, but tired. BILL MORRIS quit badlv after taking the lead. TARPON was shut off on the far turn and in pulling up interfered with BILL LOONEY and THOMAS SETH. GRABNER raced into second place soon after the start, but barely lasted to outfinish HIGHER. The latter was going fast at the end. PRINCE TOMMY was bumped in the early racing and showed a good performance. VISHNU was pocketed early and forced to come to the outside on the stretch turn to find clear sailing, but could not get up. TONIGHT was shuffled back early. KADIAK, slow to begin, was sent up steadily on the outside on the back stretch and, taking the lead on the stretch turn, held CHIP safe, but pulled up lame. CHIP was in close quarters on the far turn, but, despite the fact that his rider lost his whip, finished gamely on the outside. MODERATION challenged in the stretch, but was not good enough. The latter showed a creditable performance and was going well at the end. ANTHONY WAYNE tired after running a good h.aT. PRINCE HOTSPUR was shut off in the stretch. GALLANT KNIGHT saved ground on the first turn and, taking a short lead, was under restraint and continued to show the way into the stretch and, after being shaken up slightly at mid-stretch, withstood the challenge of SATIN SPAR and won handily. SATIN SPAR was hard held for half a mile, challenged gamely in the stretch, but could not get up. MIKE HALL raced well and closed ground, but could make but little impression over the leaders. The latter dropped far back early and, closing with a belated rush, would have won in a few more strides. SPANFLOW met interference in the stretch, but raced gamely to the end. SERAJEVO showed improvement and finished close up. OREGON CITIZEN was in close quarters on the back stretch and tired. THEO. RED quit badly. The latter came strongly in the stretch and was gaining rapidly. MASTER ACE raced forwardly and finished fast. CLOVER CLUB and AVIATOR made up much ground. DODGSON quit badly in the stretch.
