I CAMPBELL SUCCEEDS NA- j THANSON AT FAIR GROUNDS i i 1 NEW ORLEANS, La., Jan. 13. Martin Nathanson, dean of racing officials in this country, whose resignation as steward at the Fair Grounds, was received by the Louisiana Jockey Club Monday, will be succeeded by J. B. "Jack" Campbell. Announcement of Campbells appointment, also the retirement of Nathanson, was made last night by Col. J. P. Sullivan. Campbells return to the Fair Grounds, where he served in an official capacity for several years, comes as a result of negotiations carried on via wireless, Campbell being aboard a steamer en route to Havana and New York from California. Campbell recently resigned as steward at Agua Caliente, which position attracted him from the local Jefferson Park, where he served as racing secretary and steward for a number of years. At the Fair Grounds, he will act with Chris. J. Fitzgerald, who is expected here January 19. Fitzgerald is leaving New York for Lexington January 15, and following a day at Lexington, will resume the trip to this city. Nathansons health has not been of the best and his decision to give up the Fair Grounds post was made following his return to Chicago from Arizona the past week-end. He spent six weeks in Arizona and while the western climate brought him improved health, he does not feel that his present physical condition warrants an attempt to continue almost year around work.
