1 TROPICAL PARK TURF NOTES $ J. O. Keene, the well known Kentucky breeder and sportsman, was an arrival at Hialeah. Mr. Keene came on from New Orleans. He has; entered liberally in the two-year-old stakes and all of his youngsters are bred in the purple. John McFarlan, who for many years has policed Oriental Park, stopped over in Miami to take in the afternoons sport at Tropical Park. McFarlan is on his way from Chicago to Cuba. Bob McMillan, whose Wishing Ring is the holder of a record payment in the mutuels, is here. McMillan is now connected with an insurance company. He reports that thirty-one horses insured by his company died in New Orleans this winter. One of them, High Tone, which was insured for 5,000, was destroyed. Mr. McMillan will be at Hialeah for the meeting. A. B. Gallagher, who races a string in partnership with Sewell Combs, was a visitor. Mr. Gallagher has eight horses at Hialeah, a couple of which are two-year-olds. Reports from Maryland are that the Jeffords Stable has a couple of two-year-olds that give every indication of developing into high class racers. All of the youngsters gallop outdoors every day at the Jeffords farm at Berlin, Md. Mr. and Mrs. William M. Moore, the new owners of Vander Pool, watched the races at Tropical Park Monday afternoon. A. B. Gallagher registered Manassas this morning; H. C. Hatch and his trainer, Lloyd Gentry, registered Backwoodsman and Sam Pass; O. P. Woodward, Chatover and Wave Top; R. B. Allen, Celtic Prince. Jockey L. McDermott is on the grounds. Frankie Catrone is riding free lance here. He weighs 102 pounds and says he will not scale over this poundage the remainder of the year. The Miami Beach Kennel Club has invited horsemen to take in the dog races, and observe how the greyhounds are schooled. Mrs. G. D. Bryan, accompanied by a party of friends, were club house visitors. Horsemen who contemplate racing at Hialeah were notified that the rule prohibiting a jockey riding in a race in which his contract employer may have a starter will be rigidly enforced.
