NATHANSON HEADS LIST OF AURORA OFFICIALS -4 Martin Nathanson, dean of American turf officials and one of the best known stewards in the business, again will head the racing department at Aurora when the Exposition Park Jockey Club pries off the racing lid May 2, the first of the Illinois Turf Association meetings. Mr. Nathanson will serve as presiding steward and will be assisted by Charles F. Henry, who has been associated with him for many years and who is a familiar figure at Arlington Park, Washington Park, Hawthorne and Lincoln Fields. Henry also has served at Aurora for a number of seasons. This will be Auroras eighth annual meeting and it shares with Hawthorne the distinction of being a pioneer track in the Chicago district. Aurora was the first to introduce mutuels locally. Its meeting prior to the legalization of racing, when it introduced the certificate form of wagering, paved the way for the mutuel law. General manager Ed F. Carruthers, in announcing the reappointment of Messrs. Nathanson and Henry, also revealed the names of the other racing officials as selected by Mr. Nathanson. All of them are well known to local racegoers and have served in similar capacities at other local tracks. Following is the list: Placing judges, Charles Henry, Charles J. McLennan and E. A. Hileman; starter, Harry Morrissey; racing secretary, Charles F. Henry; handicappers, Martin Nathanson and Charles F. Henry; clerk of the scales, Francis P. Dunne; assistant clerk, Max Murphy; patrol judge, Frank Otis; paddock judge, E. A. Hileman. Mr. Carruthers said: "At a meeting of our stockholders this week, when conditions were gone into thoroughly, we were agreeably surprised by the class of horses that will race at Exposition Park. Last year we set a new high mark for Aurora and even better stables are making reservations for the coming meeting. Our plans are complete and we will give the fans a high grade of sport for our eighteen-day meeting ending May 21." Chief steward Nathanson has been in Chicago for the past several months going over stable reservations and warns owners who have not received approval not to ship. The Aurora track will be opened for shipments March 19.
