The latter closed fast and was overtaking the winner at the end. PRINCE WESTEND set the pace, then tired. COURT MARTIAL finished with a rush in the last quarter. WAR GENERAL tired in the last half mile. NATANIS dropped back after three-sixteenths. GAIN GOLD raced well for three-eighths. KIDDEM was never a factor. The latter closed gamely in the stretch. SURFUN opened up a long lead and seemed a certain winner, but quit near the end. SILVER SAIL was taken up sharply, but closed gamely. SOLACE, steadied along in back of the pace, moved up on the outside and wore down DONNY JOHNNY in the closing sixteenth. DONNY JOHNNY, a forward factor throughout, held on stubbornly in the drive, but was not good enough for the winner. HAPPY WARRIOR was kept under urging all the way, but was no match for the first two in the closing test. LIVE ONE was unable to reach the leaders. ON LEAVE moved up in determined fashion leaving the back stretch, but was in the deeper footing through the last quarter mile. DUNLINS LAD was never prominent and apparently did not like the going.
