OFFICIALS FOR TANFORAN Several Changes Necessary Because of Earlier Opening of Meeting Ship Horses Next Week. CICERO, 111., Aug. 30. The early opening of the Tanforan meeting will necessitate a new allotment of the officials for the opening at least. Secretary J. S. Rothert left Saturday night after the running of the Hawthorne Gold Cup, to take up his duties at San Francisco and will be in charge of the office from now on. Starter Morrissey will be engaged at Lincoln Fields until early in October, but Eddie Thomas will go on and do the starting until Mr. Morrissey arrives. Thomas took charge of the gate after Morrissey had left for Aurora last year and his work was quite i satisfactory to the San Francisco public. Webb Everett, who served as paddock and patrol judge, will leave Lincoln Fields in time for the opening and Eddie Hayes will leave after his duties there. As James Gallagher and Peter Clark will be at Kansas City for a part of the Tanforan meeting, it will be necessary to double the officials for the opening, and judge Murphy is taking to the coast with him one of his placing judges and office men here at Hawthorne, Jim Carey, who has had years of experience and will be a valuable .addition to the Tanforan staff. Judge Murphy will again serve as presiding steward, with Floyd McKenney as his associate. "Doc" Dressen will be in charge of the option department. The shipment of horses from Chicago will start at the conclusion of the Hawthorne meeting when Ben Jones, Charlie Irby, John Partridge and several others will entrain so as to freshen their horses up before the opening. Harry Unna also has about concluded not to ship to Maryland and will send his entire stable to the coast. Ben Jones takes apprentice Shannon with him to do his riding and a number of those who are now riding on the Chicago circuit will be there early in the meeting. ; . ; . .
