6 BUSY SCENES AT . AURORA Extensive Preparations- Under Way for Autumn Meeting Opening Next Saturday. AURORA, 111., Aug. 30. The Exposition Park race track here was a beehive of activity today, getting in readiness for the late summer meeting which opens Saturday. Horses are coming into the track from all directions, some from Kentucky, Ohio, Maryland, and others from some of the Canadian tracks. Edward F. Carruthers, general manager at Aurora, announced yesterday his officials had assured him there would be 1,000 or possibly more horses at the course when the bugle blows for the first race Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p. m. Every indication points to just as successful a meeting as was held in May when the Illinois Turf season was opened at Aurora, when ,the snug little Fox River Valley course witnessed the finest racing and classiest horses since racing was inaugurated at Aurora. Mr. Carruthers announced today a new addition to his official family. Dr. Fred Asche, former racing secretary and steward at Havana, Cuba, will be in the stand with presiding judge Sam C. Nuckols, long an honored racing steward in Kentucky and Illinois. Large crews of workmen have been busy for the past week tidying up the course in preparation for the opening. Mr. Carruthers has gone fr in beautifying the course since the meeting last spring. All seats in the grandstand will be free, making it a case of first come, first served in the line of seat accommodations. Aurora will follow its custom of admitting the ladies free on opening day. Thereafter every Tuesday and Friday will be free admission days for the ladies, except the payment of the tax laid down by the state and government. The Burlington Railroad and the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin electric road will operate special trains to the course daily. The best automobile routes are Ogden Avenue, Roosevelt Road and North Avenue direct to the course. Two sparkling handicaps have been prepared, one for opening day and another for Monday, Labor Day. 4
