ILCHESTER, racing as if suited by the going, sprinted into a commanding lead on the turn, saved ground thereafter and held POLAR BRUSH safe. The latter improved his position on the inside for half a mile and closed gamely. PRETTY WISE, prominent and under strong pressure, continued resolutely in the closing drive. PERIODICAL, rushed up on the outside, tired badly in the stretch. DARKLING could not get up. METAURUS showed speed. LORD RAGLAN quit. BRAN MUFFIN did not like the footing. SPECKLED BEAUTY II. moved into an easy lead, was bothered by the riderless CREEK going to the eleventh fence and fell, back, but recovered quickly and, going to the outside of LUCKITE and HUFFY, wore down the latter over the last two jumps. LUCKITE, taking a wido course after dropping out of early contention, raced HUFFY into defeat and held on well. HUFFY, restrained off the pace, challenged at the twelfth fence, then tired. FIVE OCLOCK was outrun.. DOCK LIGHT lost Jiis rider at the twelfth. DAIQUIRI and CREEK fell at the seventh obstacle. LIGHT PLUME lost his rider at the fifth and ROYAL DOULTON his at tho third jump. HYMAN worked his way up on the outside. SOME KNIGHT raced evenly. VISHNU raced close up, but tired near the stretch. THE POINT was away poorly.
