GWATHMEY FUNERAL BITES NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct 17. Funeral services were held today at his late home, 1158 Fifth Avenue, New York City, for J. Temple Gwathmey, who was fatally injured in a race Saturday. He was thrown from his own horse, Brown Ruler, in the running of the Holmdel Steeplechase,, at the meeting of the Monmouth County Hunt Racing Association, on the estate of Amory L. Haskell, near Red Bank, N. J. The horse stumbled after leaping over a hedge. Mr. Gwathmey died in the Riverview Hospital, Red Bank. The deceased, who was 23 years old, was a son of Mrs. Lelia S. Gwathmey and the late Temple Gwathmey, one of the pillars of amateur racing, and for whom the Temple Gwathmey Memorial Steeplechase, a feature of the United Hunts meetings, was named. Like his father, the deceased was a noted horseman.
