NO BOOKMAKING AT FAIR GROUNDS i I i I -- There will be no change in the betting methods which have prevailed at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans for the approaching winter meeting, which opens in January and continues into March. Bookmaking will not be tolerated. This was definitely decided on during the stay of Jcseph A. Murphy, vice-president and general manager of the Crescent City Jockey Club, after a conference with the local officers and officials of the organization. "We have reached this decision," said Judge Murphy, "after the most careful deliberation and after seeking the advice not only of local people in New Orleans, but from experts all over the United States. The general impression of everybody is that the two systems will not mix and I feel that we should adhere to this judgment. There were many arguments for and against the proposition, but under present economic conditions, it was thought best not to attempt anything that might prove to be a costly innovation. . : .
