CHANCE MEETING, in nearest pursuit of the winner throughout, weakened after five-eighths. ST. OMER worked his way up steadily, swung wide into the stretch and held on well. METAURUS worked his way between horses after the start to enter contention, but could not threaten the leaders. XANDRA raced evenly. DYAK, unable to hold a forward position early, worked his way up on the outside, reached the leaders when straightened into the stretch and took command under pressure in the final sixteenth mile. VANDER POOL circled his company to wear down NOVELIST, but could not stall off the winner when taking a brief lead. HAPPY SCOT, forced to race on the outside, closed with good courage. NOVELIST weakened after racing GOLD STEP and CONTRIBUTE into defeat. KHORASAN finished strong. THE POINT tired in the final drive, as did CONTRIBUTE. GOLD STEP weakened earlv. BAND WAGON, having good speed after the start, withstood early contention from LIQUEUR and, holding on stoutly, held SNAPLOCK safe in the final drive. SNAPLOCK worked his way into contention stoutly after the opening eighth, saved a lot of ground entering the stretch and was held safe in the closing eighth. LIQUEUR was close up, made a determined effort when straightened into the stretch and held ori stoutly. CHATTERFOL, sluggish in reaching full stride, came to the outside and finished gamely. MAROONED stumbled directly after the start and raced evenly. LAZI CANTER broke slowly, was blocked when leaving the back stretch and then came very wide. HOPE TO DO and BOLD LOVER quit. TAMBOUR, taken under strong restraint while racing close to VALENCIENNES, took command without effort when approaching the stretch and had speed in reserve at the end. VALENCIENNES, taking command, under sufference, was rated in front, dropped back midway of the far turn and came again right at tha finish. MERRY FOX unseated his rider when leaving the paddock, vaulted the fence on the back stretca to enter into a pasture, but raced fbrwardly placed and fought it out gamely. MAD FRUMP, kept under urging in the early stages, swung to the outside of CURACAO, wore the lattef down and just lasted to stall off MAD PURSUIT. The latter, rated along for the first three-quarters, entered contention when leaving the back stretch, came through on the inside of the pacemakers during the stretch run and finished strong. CURACAO went into an easy lead, was steadied until challenged and held on with good courage. MARMION could not threaten the leaders. POLO BAR finished resolutely. ROYAL RUFFIN moved around his field with a rush, gained a brief lead, but could not stall off the winner. BLONDISH, kept close up early, finished willingly. MOVE FASTER, a keen factor the entire trip, was racing stoutly at Hie end. TETRARCHAL, BOSCOBEL and A LA CARTE raced each other into submission and they weakened badly. CAMP PRINCE could not stay.
