I AURORA TURF NOTES 1 9— • Apprentice Willie Todd checked in from Tanforan and affiliated with the stable of Johnny Gormley. Todd, who rode at Agua Caliente and Tanforan during the winter, is rated well among the apprentices and can do as light as 100 pounds. The jockeys at Exposition Park sent a beautiful floral piece to Omaha, Neb., the home of the late jockey "Buddy" Hanford, who was killed in a fall at Pimlico. Seven horses, the property of Jewell Brothers, and headed by the three-year-old, Friend Charley, arrived by van from Lexington. Mrs. Foster, All Forlorn, Fair Grade, Jere, Lady Justice and Sweet Sigma completed the string that shipped well, with the exception of Friend Charley, which unloaded with a slight indisposition. Friend Charley is a nominee for the ,000 Illinois Derby, which is down for decision May 20. E. McCown sold the seven-year-old Pot Full to Mrs. C. Dumbauld, a patron from Kewanee, 111., who has not decided whom she will engage as trainer. Percy James, Jr., is an arrival with Miss Huntress, Legal Hunter and Social Hunter, which will race under the nom de plume of Hunters Hall Stock Farm. Mr. James will look after the training of the trio. Fred Veysey, who is training a public stable, registered Plunging Sun, Cinder, McLeay, Sir John K., Muffler and Blessefield, which he vanned over from Hawthorne. Apprentice Loney Hendricks led the riders at Exposition Park in money earned for the first weeks riding fees. C. Lemons is another owner that moved over from Hawthorne. He brought Shift, Ragabald, Race Extra and Buddy Bane. A. D. Steele vanned Helen Green and Petulant over from Lexington, while H. A. Hathaway brought Goodyear, Red Note and Zahn from Sportsmans Park. Jockey T. P. Martin, who ranks well up with the best riders of America, is the latest addition to the Aurora riding brigade. He had his first mount of the meeting in the sixth race Monday on Nuhat, which races in the interest of his father, C. J. Martin. «
