EQUIPOISE IN FINE FETTLE NEW YORK, N. Y, May 9— Equipoise, the C. V. Whitney champion, had a useful work at Belmont Park yesterday morning, when he went along for an easy mile in 1:44%. The handsome son of Pennant and Swinging, under restraint all the way, ran a first quarter in :24%, half in :49, six furlongs in 1:14*5 and the distance in 1:44%. It was ample to show that he is ready for whatever may be required of him, and it would suggest that he will be raced in the Kings County Handicap, the mile and seventy yards feature of the Saturday racing at Jamaica. m
